That's not true. The problem with showing 4K mpeg files is a hardware rendering issue, not a format issue. There is no reason an mpeg file can't reproduce the frames exactly the same as jpeg.
Like I posted earlier, the advantage to using an individual jpeg for each frame is it eliminates the step of building the jpeg image for the frame. it's pre built, so there's no need for that step. It saves processing time.
I think the reason you may personally see an improvement is the mpeg has compressed the bits to the point of information loss or simplified the palette and lost some colors. Both are tricks commonly employed to minimize the size of various graphic files.
