Home theater only plays sound when tv is off.

I have my ps3 going to my home theater system via hdmi, and my home theater connected to my tv via hdmi as well. If I have my home theater on while I boot up my ps3 it'll play sound but will immediately cut out once I power on my tv. I've tried different boot up patterns and hdmi cables but still didn't work. I did however hook my home theater and ps3 up to a Westinghouse and a Vizio tv and it all worked perfectly fine. I've already tried contacting support (no reply) and searching the internet but I couldn't find anything on my home theater. Sorry if I confuse anybody because I wasn't sure how to start this post or write it out.
