Sound passthru to TV speaker

Is there a way to have the sound come from the satellite box and not use the surround sound system but pass it thru to use the TV speakers aside from going HDMI straight from the sat box to the TV? Sometimes TV shows really dont warrant the sound going to the surround sound system as its just a show with primarily people talking.

thanks for your time and answers!! i was not sure what the pass through mode was about and to be honest I find it hard to read and navigate the Pioneer manual in PDF format. miss the old days of the paper manual.
