who cares about some return issue with panasonic...take it to another thread.

Back to business....One thing I never believed in was breakin period...but, I'm starting to think the pic is much better now. Less noise.

Perhaps watching the tv for a while makes my brain less likely to see the noise...or perhaps breakin is helping in some way.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi, apologies for that off topic tangent beanareeno. I have since gone through & flagged all the offending posts (including my own!) in the past few pages. While someone researching the s60 might have come across this thread & found the advice about buying direct helpful, ultimately you are right & we are off topic!

Now back to BUSINESS: does anyone know whether breakin is helping, or did he simply make his brain less likely to see the noise?

edit: (edit) NM because it looks like i'm in the clear- THANKS MODS!

Seriously?! Rude

Get off that cloud dude. I think that something has made your brain rude, or has it always been that way?

Your experience was completely helpful. Your posts shouldn't be removed. benareeno was just being rude and too self involved.
sorry if it came across rude...I tend to talk to people on here like I would talk to my friends, which may be rude.

I just don't care to read about that stuff in an otherwise technical thread. Some tv's will be doa...I get it.
I thought it was all very helpful. Made me glad I skipped ordering from Panasonic directly.

Nice! Either way it's a good price. I sure wish we had them in stock in a store near me, I'd feel better about picking it up in person. The local Best Buy has the larger sizes, though I don't find looking at the sets in those places to be helpful, given all the distractions, the questionable AV sources, the lighting, etc etc. But picking it up would be great. Maybe I should do a road trip!

Speaking of which--did I read somewhere that plasmas should be kept upright at all times during shipment?

My thoughts exactly. I was ready to order from Panasonic. Sometimes we step over a $20 bill to pick up a quarter...

Yes. They should remain upright during shipping.

That's what they say but I haven't heard anything lately regarding negative impact from it being on the truck in a different position. One never knows what position it was in while flying either. However, if it's on a slant and you hit a bump the screen is going to take much more force than if it were seated on edge.

man...this place is becoming uber-sensitive. Hopefully the poster will be able to pick up the pieces of the life I shattered with my rudeness...gimme a break.

If it's such a good point, start a thread about it.

And for that matter...keep it going in here, I don't really care. Just voiced an opinion. Do as you will.

Updated my calibration settings which are in my sig. This time used AVS HD 709 calibration disc window patterns and calibrated for a bit more light output. I calibrated for 30 ftl and got my avg de's pretty low on both grayscale and primary colors.

Anyone use the S60 with an OTA antenna? Want to know if they have added program info to the new menu interface. Like Samsung does when you press Info on the remote, you get a brief description of the program being viewed. Panasonic normally in the past has not offered this feature. Otherwise great plasma TVs.

I just checked and aside from the usual info you get from pressing info (resolution, video mode, closed captioning, etc), you get the actual channel in the top left and then you get the name of the show running. No extra program info that I can see from just pressing info.

Weird this years panasonics have a subwoofer now. That's inside the panel housing, or external? If inside, I'm trying to imagine how big or effective that could possibly be. Still must be an improvement for all the complaints re: on board sound quality. <-- wait, this is actually on st's, n/a on this particular model.

The 2012s also have a subwoofer inside the panel.

Oh wow never even realized that, thanks for the info. GUess it was that minor of a feature, no one really talked about it much.

Disappointing but not unexpected. I don't know why Panasonic can't provide this basic program info for OTA antenna users. Otherwise excellent pic quality, but lack of a very nice and basic feature that other manufacturers such as Samsung and LG provide.

I wasn't on the AV squad in high school nor I can I explain all the geek squad minutiae in technical jargon on how to judge good TV picture quality but I am pretty anal when it comes to wanting an outstanding plasma picture quality .I bought the Samsung 51 E7000 a couple of months ago and was pretty happy with it until I started reading all the great reviews about the 2012 Panasonic's so I bought the 50 st50 a few weeks ago and immediately realized the ST50 IMHO had a significantly better picture as far as black levels, brightness and I even like the colors better than on the Sammy in the custom mode.My understanding from reading this thread is the s60 might even be better as far as PQ than the ST50 so if this is true i would say exchange it.I wish I had made my decision to exchange when i could have still returned the Sammy to Amazon. Now I have to try to sell it on Craigslist and only getting low ball offers for 400.00.lol.

Got my 42s60 shipped from ABT yesterday. I have little experience w/ HD or plasmas, but it looks pretty damn great to me.

And while it doesn't have the complete homepage/viera tools, it does more than I need it to. Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Amazon, with a pretty slick interface. Better than the internet interface on the blu-ray BDT-220 I also bought. And youtube is crazy, I sync'd it up to my iphone and I'm browsing and saving videos on the phone and when I hit play they show up on my tv.

And the remote viera app works so I can do slideshows directly from my phone.

I know this TV is mostly promoted to people who want a bare bones great screen and don't care about the extras, but this is some pretty futuristic stuff from where I'm coming from.

I installed Plex on my mac and the TV is seeing videos via DLNA. Pretty cool stuff.

I'm just dying to go buy an actual blu-ray disk so I can really see what's going on!

But I have ZERO interest in buying a panasonic smart pen and writing notes on the screen!

Ordered my TCP65s60 yesterday from ABT...$1497 no tax, free shipping. Amazon had it for the same price two days ago, and now it's $1695 there plus tax. CaspianM brought my attention to this TV from another thread, where I was having problems with the 65" Vizio M650VSE, so I'm hoping this is worth the replacement (chose it over a Samsung)

Grats! Let us know how you like it and if you have any questions.

Long time since I've been on here smile.gif

Anyone picked up one of these S60s who also owns a Kuro? I have been out of the loop for a couple years and want something to use in my office which will primarily be used at night time (low light). I have a couple 101FDs already, so I would like a set that is 'somewhat' comparable to those without breaking the bank. Seems like the S60 could work well?
Hi guys... shopping for a new tv, and i really like the s60. i've never owned a plasma before, and i've been having trouble understanding some things about Hz and motion smoothing. i'm sure this is probably one of the most common questions on this forum, but after days of reading i'm still kinda confused, so here goes:

does the 600Hz drive on this tv have anything to do with motion interpolation? if not, does this model even have any motion interpolation features?

on all previous lcds i've owned, i've made sure to disable any interpolation feature because i simply don't like the look of the soap opera effect or the idea of the tv artificially creating frames that weren't in the original source. in making the transition to plasma, i've gathered that plasma will look smoother than lcd just by virtue of how the tech works without any picture processing. is this true?

given that i don't like the look of SOE, what are the key things to be aware of in plasma vs lcd. is SOE even a thing with plasma at all? what are the other common things i should be aware of in switching from lcd to plasma?

aside from all the above nonsense, my top priority for buying a new tv is picture quality. deep blacks, nice colors, full 1080p. i don't care about any smart tv features, and i don't need any picture processing beyond what's in the original source signal. the 50s60 is currently going for $700 at best buy here. is this the best picture $700 can currently buy? is there another model/brand i should check out before taking the plunge?

thanks in advance.
