The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 - various editions warning

FYI - Though Walmart has a 2-BD set of Breaking Dawn Part 2 + Breaking Dawn Part 1: Extended Edition at a great price, per the cover it is the Movies only - NO SPECIAL FEATURES.

Likewise, the Best Buy 5-Disc set that has all five Blu-rays including the Part 1: Extended Edition is, per the cover, the Movies only - NO SPECIAL FEATURES.

So if you want the Special Features for Part 2 - i.e., Commentary + 7-part "Making 2 movies back to back" feature - you have to buy the regular edition of the Blu-Ray. And if you also want Target's exclusive 2nd Blu-Ray with 52 minutes of additional behind-the-scenes features, you have to get it at Target; Best Buy and Walmart only have the regular Blu-ray of Part 2.

Likewise, if you want the commentary for the Part 1: Extended Edition you apparently have to buy the stand-alone version, as the Walmart and 5-pack Best-Buy versions that include it say they are Movie only. Note that the Part 1: Extended Edition does not have all the special features of the original theatrical release BD, so keep your copy of that.

As a Twihard I of course bought the Part 2 Target Special Edition BD + the stand-alone Part 1: Extended Edition BD.

Which means I'll be dipping again when they come out with extended editions of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Part 2.

It would be nice if they would remove the blue tint / color-cast from Twilight to make it in sync with the subsequent movies. Would that result in a loss of detail or something? E.g., did The Matrix suffer any PQ loss when they made it greener to be in line with Reloaded and Revolutions?

In case anyone is wondering, I think the Target exclusive edition BD of Breaking Dawn Part 2 with the 50+ minute 2nd BD of extras is worth paying the extra price for over the standard issue Part 2 BD. It was interesting and informative.

Our Breaking Dawn Part 1 Extended + Part 2 blu-ray set arrived on Friday from Walmart.
Although the slipcase says there are no special features in this set, the Part 2 disc does include the special features for part 2.
For $23, I thought it was a good deal.

A bit more info about the 2 movie set:
I have the 2 movie title (Pt. 1 & Pt. 2) Breaking Dawn blu-ray set from Walmart.
The Part 1 disc offers both the theatrical and extended versions of the movie. It includes a director's commentary, but no other extras.
The Part 2 disc from that set has the main movie + lengthy special features.

The 2 movies combined = 115+117 minutes = 232 minutes = almost 4 hours.

Watched the REDBOX version:

Surprisingly, this was first rate Blu Ray in my theater. Awesome surround effects and dynamic and perfect dialog intelligibility and big bass when needed. Though movie was a slow, somewhat painful adventure, the rich soundtrack and the gorgeous PQ kept me involved throughout. There was a great amount of detail in the video and fantastic black levels. Sure some CGI really stuck out, but for the most part, it was nearly flawless.

It's movies with really good soundtracks combined with awesome PQ that always has me asking which is more important: sound or video? Well, the overall effect is likely synergistic. Having a 14' wide screen and anamorphic lens which in concert with a great audio system and room, really 'synergizes' the experience of the audio and video. I see these talks on on SSPs and systems heavily weighted to the audio while watching on a small 50'-60' LED but its my feeling that if you don't have front projection, you're wasting your time on the sound.

The big sound needs a big picture overwise you can not elevate either to its highest level! This film really proved that to me as I couldn't take my eyes off the great picture and the sonics effects that were all around. Since front projection has come down so much in price, a very worthy investment to the hobbyists here!

To expand on my "point" above, I believe dividing this movie into 2 parts is just a money grab (wife thinks so too).

What actually happens in Pt. 1?

That's about it.

To be generous, all that was pertinent in Pt. 1 is a half an hour of stuff and the material should have been the opening of Breaking Dawn.
One movie, approx. 2 1/2 hours long.

Well, if that is true, and if Part 1 Extended also has the commentary track, then the Walmart Part 1 Extended + Part 2 BD is the way to go, because as nice as the Target exclusive Special Features are, they're not worth paying an extra $23 dollars for ($26.99 Target Exclusive Part 2 BD + $18.99 BB Part 1 Extended price = $45.98).

Watching the Special Features for Part 2 gave me an enormous amount of respect for the Director, Bill Condon, as well as the job any film Director must have to do. Creating these films, no matter what you think of them as entertainment, is beyond anything I'd ever do or be able to do.

Although the first Twilight was very good, very charming, Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 is easily the best of the bunch IMO.
Intense, lots of action, a perfect send-off for the franchise.

I loved the clever final act.

The multi-movie build up to a FINAL showdown with The Big Bads was handled superbly.
It gave us the battle royale with the Volturri, BUT without actually getting any of the favorite characters killed.
Those who have seen the movie know what I mean.wink.gif
It is done so damn well, I don't want to give the twist ending away.

The movie does leave an opportunity open for sequels.
However, this ends on such a high note, I hope the suits don't do it.

Haven't seen it yet but don't think they could especially if done 5 to 10 years down the track because the actors will age.

True, but Disney apparently is in negotiations with some of the original cast of SW A New Hope to come back and reprise their roles.

One of the last scenes showed her on the beach with Jacob.wink.gif

That was obviously a different actress. Yes, they could go with a new cast. Some, of course, would be able to be made up to look younger so that even 8-10 years from now it might be possible to still use them. Stephenie is burned out on vampires, though, she has said.

Just watched the finale last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The CGI was laughable, though. Aro's laugh made me spontaneously burst out laughing. I almost did a spit take with my GnT.

Not sure if this was mentioned but the red box version is only 5.1 dtsma where the retail version is 7.1. I think this is another lionsgate issue. At least it is hd audio unlike hunger games.
