amplifier advise

Looking for advice. Currently running a 5.1 set up with psb t55, c60 and s-50 speakers and 5i sub. Would like to use an amplfier to run all 5 channels and use my hk reciever as the processor. Have been doing lots of reading and am considering the Outlaw 7500 or the 7125. I will probalby never have the need for 7 channels so 2 channels of the 7125 would never be used but I am thinking that the 7500 is overkill for my setup.

Have you looked at the Emotiva 5 channel amps?

Which HK receiver do you have?

How big is your room that you feel you need more power?

Which H/K receiver do you have? It may be perfectly appropriate for your PSBs, although a separate amp certainly won't hurt.

I'd highly recommend the fully balanced Outlaw 7500. You could always upgrade your system around this amp down the road if you wanted. The Emotivas can't be beat when it comes to the number of watts per dollar, but the Outlaws are much nicer amps.

the room is about 12 x 16. hk 3600 reciever, but there is a problem with 2 of the outputs on the reciever, i am getting a buzz from the center channel speaker and the left front speaker. have tried different speaker wires and swapped speakers around. still gettin noise form the center and left front, so assuming the amp section is the problem. the reciever has preouts, so thats why i was thinking about going separates. have looked at emotiva but honestly like the idea that outlaw is made in the usa.

would i need a dedicated 110volt circuit for the 7500 or would i be able to run that with my samsung 50 inch plasma on the same circuit?

Hello, in all honesty, yes, you should be fine- you will not need a dedicated circut to run that amplifier provided the room was wired correctly. The typical 15 amp circut is more then enough. But I must ask, have you discovered the source of the buzz? I would find what EXACTLY was causing this first.

And BTW, that Outlaw amp is built to order by ATI. Very good amplifier.

its more of a buzz/crackle and being that i have switched speakers and speaker wires and it is still the same 2 channels i'm assuming it is a problem internally in the receiver. i've decided going separates is the way to go and if adding an amp and i still have the noise i will then look at a separate processor possibly the outlaw 975. as far as future upgrades i dont see any speaker upgrades for quite some time.

well I would avoid the outlaw and emo processors, look for anthem, integra/onkyo and perhaps denon. I suspect that you have a dead reciever- hence I would replace it or get it fixed- which may not cost much.

Are you running a 5.1 or 7.1 set up and what is/are your goals?

BTW, if memory serves that Hk receiver is ICE (digital/switching amplifer) power correct?

The Outlaw pre/pro has gotten good reviews, is in stock, and doesn't seem to have any issues. I'm not sure the same can be said about the Emotiva. The problem with both pre/pros is that you won't be able to take advantage of the 7500's balanced outputs, so for that reason the Marantz 7005 may be a better way to go, although it sells for about double the price of the Outlaw.
