Oppo BDP-105 as DAC + preamp vs. Emotiva XSP-1 Differential Reference Preamp

Is there an advantage in bypassing the Oppo BDP-105's preamp and use it as a DAC only and let Emotiva XSP-1 do the preamp job?

I'm trying to see if the XSP-1 preamp is significantly better than the built-in preamp in the Oppo.

The problem is - you are not bypassing oppo preamp. Essentially XSP-1 would be used as an analog volume control only. I am not sure why this configuration will be much better unless you prefer some emotiva sound coloration in your system

If he went into the Emotiva via analog outputs of the Oppo he would be bypassing the Oppo volume circuit. He may find he likes the Emotiva more for this. I like the sound thru my JC2 more than the Oppo connected directly to my amps.

Oppo volume control circuit affecting analog outputs.
I dont think you can disable it - for preamp you suppose to set the volume to 100
