Experts,

This is my set-up:
Panasonic 42st50 plasma tv
Denon 1612 receiver
Boston Acoustics Soundware SE 5.1 speakerset

This is my problem.
When i play a videoformat through the usb port from the tv i can't get any sound over my receiver whatsoever???eek.gif
The tv is connected with a 1.4 hdmi to the receiver.
When i connect my laptop it plays over the receiver and when watching tv i have sound from the receiver as well.

So who can solve this problem and help me to get sound from the usb port. to receiver???

What does the TV's Owner's manual say about USB audio over the HDMI(ARC) as the 1612 can only play audio if the source is sending it?

I contacted Panansonic and they told me that it's only possible to get sound over the receiver if you connect the tv with an optical cable to the receiver.

That's an easy solution...

Yes it's an easy solution but you can't play hd master and dolby true hd soundformats with an optical cable, At best dolby digital and Dts. mad.gif

You can't send lossless over ARC either. The Audio Return Channel is not a full HDMI path back from the TV to the AVR. It is simply a way to save a cable. ARC is no better than optical and, in some TVs, it actually has less functionality.

What TV sends lossless audio anyway?

There aren't any...

You can only get TrueHD and DTS-MA from blu ray nowadays anyway and you have to connect the BD player directly to the AVR for that.

Presumably he's got a source with lossless audio on that USB input.

Yes but that doesn't mean that it is "fully playable" thru the port on the TV. The OP has a laptop... which is fully capably assuming it has the appropriate connections / capability.

The added question would be what is the file format / type along with encoding type... does that agree with what is indicated in the manual?

Last question, are you able to record TV program on the drive (via the TV) and play that back (audio and video) correctly?
