Thanks man, they are going behind my screen or else i would veneer or do something nice.

I am going to thin the duratex down as much as i can i want a smooth finish. I wont need a ton of texture the seams are all flush trimmed.

Dude, pleeeese don't duratex these! Those are some really awesome looking cabinets, and like I said before, they actually look sort of similar to the B&W 800 Diamonds! So wtih that being said, I seriously hate to see you putting Duratex on these beautifull cabinets! You should do something really nice like a black piano gloss finish or a nice white finish. Some veneer stained dark ebony would be great as well!

Who knows, one day you might move or change directions with your room and no longer have them behind a screen! To me, this is like seeing someone take a B&W 800 Diamond and finishing it with spray on bedliner! LoL, maybe not quite that bad, but you get the picture!

All this effort doing curved cabs and you won't be able to see them?

That's kind of what I was thinking. That's a lot of work to hide them out of sight.

And last but not least this big boy for roundovers! 3/4"!!!!!

Now before somebody busts me on the proximity o the waveguide to the side baffle, im on top of that and have a unique way to deal with it. More on this later.....

Detail of dual radius. 3/4" was too big and spilled into waveguide so i did this:

I think the transition at the waveguide looks awesome. If anybody asked me, I'd say I meant to do that smile.gif

The speakers are turning out phenomenal.. Great job!!

Impressive Nick. Loving the roundovers. I think you nailed the look around the wg, heck even a bigger roundover would look cool too. Those will look great with the smooth, thinned out duratex. Are you spraying it like John at AE did.

Staying tuned for listening impressions.
I think the dual roundovers look great. I think it adds a unique and cool appearance to the baffle.

Looking forward to reading about your listening impressions.

Thanks Tim, RB, and brian.

The pics dont do it much justice it really makes the waveguide pop on the front baffle. Just wait till its all blacked out it should be pretty nice.

Just for perspective on the roundovers i did a full 1/2" roundover beside the waveguide and transitioned to the 3/4" for the rest of the cab.

I ran out of time today or i would def have gotten to listen!

Initially i was going to do a terminal cup but no good way to put it on a curve frown.gif

However i remember Onix used to do curved bookshelves and they stuck insulated posts out the back and it looked good, thats what ima do i think.

Man this looks amazing!!!!!! Good work!

Very cool, I can't wait for the pictures after they get painted.

Wow, what a beautiful job in making the curves....congrats!
Would love to hear those.....might have to try a pair.

One warning for those that are planning to kerf mdf....
Not all mdf is produced the same....how do I know?
I tried to do it for a whole day....failure at every turn.

I cut as close as 1/4" inch apart and so deep there was only 1/16" left....
it snapped every time.....on 1/2" and 3/4" material, it was a no go.
I finally went to a proper supply house and asked the rep.
His answer...not all mdf is produced the same...huh, who knew?

After watching all the videos on u-toob I thought it would be a snap.
Take in consideration that I live in Canada.....well, there you go...
different processing.

I did finally come up with another method, and it worked very well.
If you like here is the method, just scroll down till you see the
construction pics.

Luv the curved backs - you are knocking it out of the park !!
Just followed that link - interesting technique for the curves! Makes me want to do another build smile.gif

Very cool. Your definitely making those your own. I like the round over around the WG as well. Makes it look like its popping out.

Wired up and installed drivers last night:

AD984D64-84A2-47EA-9608-EF53B99B187D-2205-0000037C805DD873_zpscc66f5f8.jpg

Now listening impressions:

Pretty much what youd expect. Exceptional detail and clarity, especially with vocals.

They do need subwoofer help. I didnt have gasket tape and i didnt stuff the cabinet for this little test. The speaker was also ~15' from any boundary so the bass was very thin. I expect it will fill out a bit when the aforementioned items are addressed but with a calc f3 of 80Hz i expected to use subs with them.

I was able to register 98db @ about 15' with only about 40 watts playing Jack Johnson which is pretty soft anyways....

I dont have golden ears and wont go into anymore on how they sound. Im gonna do measurements once i seal in the drivers and stuff cab once i have time.

That's awesome man! The curved cabs came out great and the varying round over is a great unique touch. I think you should do something like Sibuna's Fusion 8's and Duratex the front but maybe try and do gloss black finish on the sides/back and top. I hate finishing work but man those are just asking for something nice even if they are going behind a screen!

Excellent Result - I agree Duratex is not worthy on these works of art !

Measurements:

I think I might have something wrong.... The high end is rolled off drastically. Crossover region looks ok, but after that it drops like a rock. Nevermind the jagged midbass, I measured on the workbench shooting into the driveway. I just wanted to see a relatively smooth crossover region and flat extension to about 18K, but the roll off seems extreme to me. Anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem? I didn't have time to pull crossover and triple check it to make sure nothing is mis-wired but IDK....confused.gif..
