Problems with gaming ping on old style PS3

Ok so I have the old 80gb stylr PS3 and my Son as the new slim 120gb.

Now the problem I have is the ping connections I get on my PS3 if I join a lobby on MW3 for instance the ping to find games goes over <150ms where as my son can get in straight away on <50ms.

My games are so laggy but when I join his lobby its fine. We are both using the same router and all other equipment connects fine. Is there something that is faulty in my PS3 if so what as this has only started happening over the last 2 months.

Connects to router fine
Still get the problem even if my PS3 is the only item connected to the router
media server is disabled
affects MW3 & BO3 and MW2 (works fine in my sons PS3)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you connecting via wireless or wifi?

If wired, have you tried forcing the speed and duplex?

If wireless, can you test with a hardwired connection?

Happens with both hard and wirless. Im currently wirless as I have moved house and the router is in the hallway.

How do I force the speed & duplex settings?

In network settings, use manual instead of automatic/easy.
