Anyone know a good cooler for a silverstone LC-10B case? The old version...

The stock intel cooler on my 3570k sounds like a full throttle Xbox 360. I'd like to replace it with a better, more silent cooler. I don't want to go with liquid cooling.

That being said, so many of the popular recommendations won't fit in the LC-10B case. I can just barely fit a 7950 card in there...i can't even screw the lid on because the PCI-E power cables on the top of the card extend just a bit too high, and that is about 5" tall.

My motherboard is an asrock z77 extreme 4.

Anyone have a really good recommendation?

Thank you!

It's prob your PSU making noise.

Did you try lowering the fan setting ?

Usually stock intel coolers are very quiet and dont sound like your describing

I'm pretty sure it is the CPU fan...when I built the computer I had the PSU outside of the case for a while during testing and it was easier to hear where the sound was coming from.

I do know that the bios on the asrock is set to "full on" on the fan, so I guess it is running at full speed, but when I tried to change it in the bios, it didn't seem to do much.

Lower the setting will quiet it down for sure. Try 4.

Up your target temp 1 degree too. ( makes huge difference ).

I lowered the fan settings via the Asrock utility software to 4 as you recommended. It made a HUGE difference. It doesn't sound like a 360 on full anymore. It sounds more like a 360 turned on at teh dashboard at rest.

That being said, it isn't silent. I would like to make it quieter yet.

I'm also concerned about the temps. By lowering the fan to 4 it keeps the CPU much hotter-at about 51 degree Celsius.

Any recommendations on a silent cooler that would fit in my case and motherboard?

I've run CPU at 51 degrees (and hotter) for 24/7 use for years. I'd take the bet it would last a half decade with anyone that wants it.

That said,

What clearance do you have for space?

Coolermaster makes good cheap but effective CPU coolers.

Or this: ($9.99)

ZALMAN CNPS7000V(AL)-1-PWM 92mm FSB (Fluid Shield Bearing) Silent Pure Aluminum CPU Cooler with enhanced performance and silent operation

If you have more space you can probably get something better.

I have a 512 EVO coolermaster and it's great. $25 and it's performance is awesome.
Probably too big for you case though.

Btw- I have an asrock Z77 + 3570k in my HTPC with stock cooler on level 4 target. I adjusted the default CPU temp up (+1) Celcius.

It's nearly silent and it is in my bedroom. It's in an Antec300 case. It rests on the floor in my AV closet (no door on it) not far from me.

I think your sensitive to the noise or you got a bum intel cooler. Mine is quiet. As is most of them I build.

But nothing wrong spending $10 on that above if you want it. It should work well. It fits smaller cases so if you have a lot of clearance there might be a better choice for you. I did not look up your dimensions I just chose a fan I thought would fit.

I think that you're right...I am sensitive to noise. The PC is also about four-five feet from where I sit. It is possible, also, that the case doesn't do a good job of insulating the sound. there is no sound dampening material.

I do notice the sound from the cable company-provided dvr's and it bothers me as well.

I was looking at that one, but my concern is with the ram. I have the corsair vengeance ram, and it is taller than the clearance that cooler gives.

No problem if you orient the heatpipes toward RAM.
