That is actually quite true.

I agree that FB has a lot of drama, primarily from woman but I will tell you that I do not friend anyone I do not know personally.
What FB has allowed me to do is connect with people I've lost contact over the years and re-establish our physical(face to face) relationships.
Without FB, I would have lost out on a lot of good times/memories over the last several years reconnecting with friends.

I live in a different country than a lot of my family, and the college I went to where I made friends had a lot of international students. Facebook allows me to easily keep in touch with them.

That is just plain weird!!!

We’ve saw a lot of fads come and go but totally do not understand the fad and infatuation with the cell phone. Many years ago when one saw a mobile phone in a auto that usually represented money and status and maybe something to aspire too. We got one of the first handheld Motorola cell phones that was made available, prior to that all were “bag phones”. For several years now everyone seems to have a cell/smart phone so I’m not sure why folks still make it a point to be seen with it.

Cellphones use to be a safety device. Now they are a distraction device.
Watch this video as one example...

I'm afraid cell phones have went far beyond the "fad" stage in today's world.

There isn't any way in he!! females will give 'em up.
The device is perfectly suited for their natural inclination to communicate on a near constant basis with other folks.

And before the PC police show up....NO, that isn't sexist.
Any male who hasn't noticed men and women are different psychologically need not respond to this post.wink.gif

I've noticed EVERY forum I take part in is faltering. Smart Phones have changed the game. Eventually forums will die out.

Of course, but Facebook too will have it's rise and fall as people get burned out on it and move to something else.
I guess i'm just not buying the reduced traffic here as being Facebook or social media related.

Definitely not. I certainly don't care for FB and If I need to catch up with family around the world which I have you can't beat Skype.

Fewer people are coming here because the supposedly great economy we are told is getting better... Well... You get the idea.

No I don't, can you clarify?

It's related because those things take up people's time. And since there are only 24 hours in a day, something has to give. And as someone else above mentioned, smartphone use is also a time hog. The decline in viewership here is not isolated but is widespread across all message boards.

It's not the only factor affecting AVS and boards like AVS, but it definitely is a factor.

I don't know about that. Social media use is generally aimed at keeping in touch with people you know. There are things I'm very interested that none of my friends and family are, and which I like discussing in depth. Forum discussions with strangers are the only place I can do that much of the time. The lower activity may just be the natural ebb and flow. Some people may have burned out and new people my fill their space, or not. I have burned out on some forums when the negativity got too thick and online arguments started affecting my mood in regular life. At this point I avoid political forums altogether, and try to steer clear of article comment sections. Most of it is just graffiti with punctuation.

COSMIC CLIMATE CHANGE, which is also affecting EARTH, is the cause of all this, 'what the hell is going on' type of feeling. And I believe it is wide-spread across the globe. Mix this with exponential technology and population growth, and you have a recipe for disaster.....We have reached our peak in this society, and like the Roman Empire, it will fall.....and then rise again in some post-tech world. I'm half way serious, so don't let this affect your day wink.gif

A good example for why the blu ray forum is not as active anymore can be summed up by taking a quick read of the SAMSARA thread.

+1
I didn't think that a bluray discussion of Samsara would lead to a thread-lock eek.gif This did NOT happen with Baraka.....huh.....

Yea, It's really quiet since the days of the format wars.. I recently just came back. Grant it I dont even remember my old log in info. I also noticed it seems like the amount of quality and informational posts have died off. I remember coming here and being able to get all info needed cause members did so much research. Now it seems like mostly opinions and not of much hard research and testing. OH well...The good ole days...

I'm in IT so I have to be aware of all these technology advances, basically cellphone = pocket computer/camera/social life line.
It won't last forever though, things are rapidly changing, also Facebook is on borrowed time as is Apple. They will eventually be seen as daft by younger kids and they will move onto something else.

But what is happening now is the further continuation of the era when the Ipod and MP3 destroyed the idea of quality audio or the idea of actually sitting down and listening to music. The same type of thing is now happening to movies and or watching TV. People would rather stream video on their tiny screens then sit down and pay attention to watching a movie on proper home theater equipment.

It ill be interesting to see what happens from here, the effects of this pretty much killed the music and audio industry.

Well Apple is not a 'mobile phone company' but you already know that. We all know that "Apple is doomed" anyway... wink.gif

Well they are on borrowed time as far as being on the cutting edge and being what younger generations gravitate towards thus what I said right below it. I did not mean either company will go down in flames and no longer exist, seem pretty hard for huge companies to completely go under and it takes a decade or more of complete mis managment.

That is an interesting piece which definitely has the ring of truth. Women have almost certainly moved away from forums and towards social networks on the Internet like Facebook, as a primary means of communication. Very young people seem to gravitate now towards their "own" forums, like the wild wild west that is 4chan.

The masses have made it clear they prefer shallow content from the Internet, disposable and easily generated. It's a byproduct of the ubiquity of smartphones, which limits the amount and quality of contributions one can make through those devices.

Facebook - what is that - some kind of contemporary kids play??
Ok Ive tried it, and was asked to leave, my writings were too elaborate.

I really need this Bd forum. I dont watch TV anymore, just some short news when a Pope retires or a bomb goes off in Bagdad ...

I watch bluray disks, yes I have two players cannot risk any " meltdown" of one of them ...

The bluray format is brand new, I guess I didnt really fetched that this new format was more than a gimmick until late 2012.

Soo - I do remember my own transition from Vhs to dvd in late 1990. I still have that Pana vhs player and even a small collection of vhs tapes.

Now, same happens again. I am at the moment putting most of my dvds on the attick, replacing them with remastered / reissued blurays (cleopatra, two towers, cast away).
The prices are nice, even lower than back in 2001 when my vhs went on garage sale (maybe silly?)

Soo, after three months of transition to BD, I have spent a lot of money on this new medium. And I cant stop wink.gif Just now considering Jumper and Pearl Harbor - should I really spend another 25 dollar to get just these two in BD?

I just ordered Silverado and Lotr - fellowship of ring extended from amazon. Seems like these two inBD are praised by rewiers.

So - in 2025 - at my 70 th anniversary, do we get a new format again and new players? The superdisc, a superconductor disc made of Unibtanium, just 1 cm in diameter and 50 TB of storage? With holographic wrapping where the cast and crew present themselves and the latest blockbuster - the 18 hour Prometheus SE in 5D?
(Guess what the 2 extra dimensions might be ..... )
