Please help before my brain asplodes! (Seeking new panel suggestions)

I bow to the ever-knowledgeable braintrust of the AVS gurus and beseech you for your assistance.

So, I have this (now ancient) 42" Philips 42PFL7432D/37. It's still humming along after 7 years, but I need bigger and better quality now.

I've been lightly researching for the past year, and more heavily in the past month and I'm pretty sure I'm worse off than when I started. There's so much conflicting and apocryphal, zealotic information between panel types, brands, etc...

1. Budget: ~$800 - $1200 USD (some flex there, but the more I flex; the less happy the wife will be).
2. Seating distance: ~8'
3. Size/placement limitations: Nothing under 55". 60"+ vastly preferred. No placement restrictions.
4. Uses: 3D gaming, 3D movies and streaming video from HTPC
5. Sources: XBOX 360, PS3, Wii U, OUYA, HTPC w/Blu Ray drive, Laptops, Samsung Galaxy S III and Note II.
6. Room lighting: Low light.

I'm leaning towards the LG 55LM7600, but I'm wondering if there's other options out there.

Must Haves:

120 Hz
Thin bezel
Wifi
Local dimming

Would Prefer:

Passive 3D
Full array LED
240 Hz

Any and all suggestions welcomed and appreciated. Looking to purchase around the second week of March.

7600 will be a little out of budget but a great choice. If you want to stay in budget with a great TV look at the 55lm6700. Costco has this TV for $1099 and Best Buy will also match this price.

The cheapest I have seen the 7600 for online is around $1250 and that is from a place that does not except returns. Would never order an edge lit LED TV from a place I cannot return with the light bleed issues that plague these sets.

How much are you able to get the 7600 for?

I'd suggest a Samsung but I'm a Samsung guy. Costco has a great deal on a 55" here.

He wants 3d. That TV does not offer 3d. I did look at the Sammy UN55ES6500 which is a 3d tv. Amazon sells this TV for $1,199 right now. I was deciding between the Sammy and the 55lm6700. I chose the 6700 because I felt it had the better picture. I also prefer passive 3d over active. Also, the almost no bezel cinema screen looks incredible. It just adds to the wow factor when watching TV.

I think you can't go wronw with any of these TV's. I think you need to decide if you want active or passive 3d. Also, the LG offers full screen video game playing even when the screen is split for 2 players. You wear the special glasses and each player see's only their screen in 55" goodness.

I personally have been very unimpressed with the LM6700, absolutely terrible off-axis viewing, mediocre motion handling, poor black levels, etc. If the LM7600 can fit the budget, I think for what's being considered the LM7600 is the no brainer. The second option would be the ES6500, and again I wouldn't consider the LM6700.

I'm currently looking at around $1450 for the 55LM7600, just trying to decide whether or not the couple hundred extra are worth it.

I'm seeing a lot of reports of poor image quality for the LM6700, the pricepoint is tempting, but not at that level of risk.

You're apparently not 'hip' to common courtesy either. Do you have anything constructive to add, or are you just padding your post count?

Aside from Ratman, all of your input is greatly appreciated... This is going to be a pain in my backside until I have the final panel in my den, and maybe even then... ...but we'll see what happens.

Go with the 55LM7600. I'm waiting for the 55LA7400 myself. The wife is not going to like the price but I really don't care. For the amount of time I plan to own the TV, 4 or 5 hundred more is not a big deal. I can't speak for your wife but my wife has zero technical knowledge. She will totally love and enjoy it once its in our home but it will never get here if I let her dictate how much I can spend. So just get it!

55lm6700 would be a better choice with built-in wifi as an additional feature.

Well, I've relegated myself to the doghouse for the next month or so, but at least I'll have an LG 60LM7200 to keep me company.

3D wasn't listed under his "must haves" so I think it was a good suggestion. Once I finally had 3D in my setup I realized I liked it about as much as I did in the theatre. I'm just glad I didn't base my final purchase on that feature as you're probably not going to use it much.

Panasonic 55DT50 or 55ET60, due in a few weeks. I bought a 55DT50 from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $700 a few weeks ago. A new one goes for about 1200 right now. It is absolutely stunning, although the top edge has some uneven backlighting, which causes a small dark spot near the right corner. The spot is visible only in light colors

I submitted a warranty request to Panasonic. They said they will get back to me. I hope they can fix or replace the TV. 700 for such a TV is a steal. If Panasonic won't fix or replace it, I would return it and get the 55ET60.

CNET has a bad review for the DT50. Don't believe it. Like an increasing number of CNET reviews, it is bull****.
