Blu-Ray package "security" devices ???

Good afternoon.

Almost every Blu-Ray retail package includes at least 1 sticky insert inside by the disc.

One is a plastic covered metal strip about 1/2 x 1-1/2 inches.

The other is a 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inch paper-covered "spiral" of metallic concentric rings.

Are these security devices - or something more sinister?

Thanks for your time.

They are anti-theft tags. Two different styles.

Thanks for your reply.

Why the duplication in some packages?

Most retailers use one of the two systems (which are incompatible, as far as I know), so some Blu-ray makers pack both styles inside.

As annoying as they are, there's nothing sinister about them.

Now, if they start using RFID tags, then you can start worrying that the wrong people might do a scan and find out you own the special "toe pick" edition of "Ice Castles"... wink.gif

More annoying to me are the stickers they place on the case that tell you the sercurity device is inside. I never understood why they don't put those on the plastic wrapping instead of the case itself.

I hate the BluRay cases that lock with the magnets. Nothing worse than getting home and realizing the clerk forgot to unlock your case... Doh!

Are you talking about some kind of plastic security case that you're not supposed to take home? Maybe I've been missing out on the extra fancy magnet lock editions biggrin.gif

Some of the cases here have these white splines inside the lip of the case with a green and red padlock symbol - using a special magnet rig they slide the spline to lock the case and prevent theft of the disc - but dont always unlock it when you buy :-(

Ah. Another good reason to buy online, I guess.
