Official LG BP530/430/330 Owners Thread

I just got a look inside the new BP530 and BP330 today. The main board is the same EXACT one used in the 2012 models (BP620, BP520, BP320). No better CPU.

I assume when the BP730 (and later on the BP630- same just without the magic remote) get to store shelves that they will share the same board. I am just happy the BP630 & BP730 will have 2x2 dual band wifi chips in them.

I can confirm that the 2013 BP530 does have Amazon Instant Video on it here in the USA. In addition, one can pause, rewind and fast forward on all compatible video media via DLNA, unlike on the BP620 which does not allow the user to rewind or pause with select video formats.

The main menu has also been slightly tweaked as well. You can access Netflix right off the main screen and not have to enter the Premium sub-menu first. The player’s boot speed is quicker as well without having to turn on the “quick start” feature. Disc load speeds are good as well. Universal Studio Blu-ray discs tend to have slower load speeds and compared to my 2011 LG BD670 model, Universal releases (like Ted and The Office season sets) load at least twice as fast on the BP530.

There is no file share like the old players. Media has to be off DLNA server or USB storage media plugged into the player.

I was able to login and all with Amazon Instant before, but since an update to "premium," I just get the coming soon screen.

I have watched MKV files with DTS and Dolby Digital audio formats on the BP530 without issue (unlike my 2012 mode year Panasonic TV). I have played back XVID (Divx) format AVI files without issues along with WMV, MP4 and so on.

The BP530 has replaced my LG BD670 in my living room and I am waiting to get my hands on a LG 2013 model with an internal dual band wifi adapter (ie- the P730, BP630) for my bedroom TV, as I like to stream media over 5Ghz and not the crowded 2.4Ghz band.

The BP530 is playing back all the same media my BD670 could off my DLNA server box.

I picked up a cheap Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v2 about seven months ago and put a 3TB Seagate drive that is listed on the hardware compatibility list (see www.readynas.com) for the unit . Netgear just announced their next generation of NAS products for their ReadyNAS line yesterday, so you should be able to get a ReadyNAS Duo v2 for really cheap now… around $99.00 for a diskless unit, then pick up a 2TB compatible drive for around $95.

Just a heads up, after today’s (03/28/13) released software upgrade the icon for Amazon Instant Video was removed from the Premium menu on the BP530. Prior to this, LG had a “Coming Soon” page display when selecting the Amazon icon. I have dropped a message to LG inquiring, but have yet to hear back.

I do not know the exact details, but from what I recall last year, there were some licensing issues between LG and Amazon. In addition, the player platform changes from the 2011 to 2012 software-wise has lots of bugs and LG ended up not rolling out Amazon for those models like the BP620.

Personally while the BP620 and BP530 have the same hardware main boards inside, I would sell the BP620 and keep the BP530, as if Amazon is to be added, it will most likely be with a newer model like the BP530. In addition, the BP530 does not have the issues the BP620 has when rewinding, fast forwarding some video content off a DLNA server. In addition, the wireless card in the BP530 has better antenna reception than the Wi-Fi card in the BP620.

At home I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v2 running RAIDiator ARM 5.3.7 for my NAS. It runs Netgear's ReadyDLNA. While I setup my parents up with a cheap WD MyBook Live, which runs Twonky for the media server. Just get yourself a cheap NAS that comes with a built-in dLNA media server.
