My father-in-law's B&W 808s. They still sound awesome. I believe they sold for about 8 grand a pair back in the mid-80s.

I think my favorite expensive speakers from last years RMAF were Salk SS8s, Wisdom Audio L75 line source speakers, Von Schweikert VR-44, and Teresonic ingenium

Monoprice in-walls- just kidding. JMLab Grand Utopia about $75k/pair 10 yrs ago driven by Sim Audio W-10 Monoblocks.

They only come in at $10,000(ish) a pair.

BG Radia LA-600 / LA-800

&

Martin Logan Montis (this rig had two subwoofers - one for each speaker - so it's NOT truly JUST the speaker I was listening to).

Least Expensive, but most impressive.....

Several, but in different categories.

- Bg Radia Z1 ($600/pr)

- ADAM AUDIO ARTist 3 ($800/pr - but these are active so this includes amplification)

- For Home Theater use: Jamo D500 and it's big brother D600 THX on-walls for $349 & $599 each. One of the absolute biggest steals in audio.

B&W 802 Diamond ($15k/pair)

Vandersteen Model 7 $45,000 per pair. I got to hear them in two different settings. Just amazing in a hotel room at the RMAF great experience. Then in a treated, well set up living room of a local dealer. Just sat and listened for about 50 mins kind of in disbelief.
It is kind of nice to know what you can strive for even when with amplification and sources it was around 150K + system and I am not going there just yet.

Martin Logan Statements. $70,000 at the time (about 15 years ago).

Wilson Alexandria driven by a pair of very large Krell mono blocks and Wadia front end and all wired with Transparent cables. Easily $1/4M (and probably closer to $1/2M). Bought a lottery ticket that day, but just didn't pan out. smile.gif

All of the Steinway Lyngdorf systems I have heard at Gecko Home Cinema (in the UK) are utterly stunning, although at £10k - £100k, I better start saving... lol

Magico Q3s with a Devialet D-Premier integrated amplifier/DAC. These speakers are 250lbs each, and run $40k per pair. Floored by their sound...and then I find out they have a q5 and a q7!

Aerial Acoustics 10t's that I auditioned at Audible Elegance in Cincinnati around 15 years ago. I later purchased Aerial Acoustics LR5's that I still own. I guess my kids will fight over these when I die.
