Need Help with Speakers/soundbar/etc. for Person with Hearing Difficulties

I recently purchased a new Samsung UN55ES6500 TV for my mother, who has minor hearing difficulties. She could hear the sound coming out of her old CRT fairly easily (requiring only a slight increase in volume). However, the new TV's sound was too high-pitched and hollow for her to discern dialogue, so I purchased a Samsung HW-E450 soundbar for her. This was an improvement over the internal speakers, but she still had problems with it. I suspect that the soundbar's 3d Sound Plus feature is the problem... the virtual surround creates a hollow tone that interferes with her hearing. What is the best solution to replicate the sound coming out of an old-school CRT TV set?

Try turning any sound modification off and turn the base down that may help. If the room is bright turn the hi range down and hopefully if the set has an equalizer in it turn the mid range up and the low and hi ranges down. If she has hearing aids she my need to have them checked. If no help, try Sony inferred head phones that plug into the audio outs on the set or a set top box, they have a volume control.
