RemotePotato or Ceton Media Center App for mobile app control?

Not sure about the Ceton but with Remote Potato you will actually be able to view your recorded content as well as your personal movie rips.

I've got the Ceton app and it works well but as mentioned, it doesn't allow you to stream to your Apple device. In truth, it's on my wife's iPad 3 and she's the one that uses it. My only regret is that it contains a remote control function that allows her to turn the main TV volume down from our bedroom when I'm watching something in the living room that she thinks is too loud.

I started out using the Remote Potato app before the Ceton app was ever created. Once the Ceton app was released (and on sale) I bought it while maintaining both apps. I realized I never used the Remote Potato app after getting the Ceton app and uninstalled the app and the software.

I prefer the Ceton app as well since it works better as far as the guide and DVR management are concerned, but it can't stream. So I keep the Potato for streaming only. It's a nice option to have and is only a few bucks.

I never knew about the Ceton app prior to this thread, but this thread caused me to take a look at it. I ended up buying it, and the Ceton app feels more polished. The guide is definitely nicer looking, and I like that you can type in a channel instead of having to page through the guide to get to the channel you want. I never used the remote streaming of remote potato, since there are other apps that stream better than remote potato. The setup with the Ceton app is also a little more straight forward, and it works the same connected to the lan or remote. With remote potato, you need to create separate connections for lan and remote which isn't a big deal, but less convenient.

I never got DVR scheduling to work with Remote Potato though honestly I never spent much time with it (I was using it with an Android phone). I really likedhow I can pull up my music library on it. It worked as a remote control though I never used it.

The Ceton app is tremendous for DVR scheduling. I think I record more things because I like browsing it on the bus into work or laying in bed. I haven't much screwed around with the movies part of it yet. The remote control seemed to work but again I didn't really use it.

What apps are those? I'd love to replace remote potato.

Plex is probably the best for remote playback. Not live TV mind you, but remote access to music and movies (and video compression/transcoding if needed).

If you really wanted live tv on the go I think a Slingbox is probably the best way to do it.

Will plex play all recorded TV, including copy once and copy never?

Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but it seems like I've tried plex before and it used the freeware VLC player to transcode everything, resulting in pretty sub-par video quality. Is that the case, or am I mistaken?

I know for a fact that PLEX won't play copy once. I don't think you can record copy never. I only use it to stream to my phone so the quality of the player isn't really an issue..

ive connected my slingbox to both my xbox 360 and dma 2100.

i think thats a nice way to do it if you have an extender in a location that isn't used often. you don't interrupt the main pc/viewing area.

you COULD use a slingbox with a pc. would be best to use it with a videocard that outputs component though.
