Hey Christine...

Welcome to the forum. There is no "best receiver" - only a receiver that best suites YOUR requirements (price, your budget, features, etc.). Perhaps you could post what you are looking for in a receiver, along with some details on your viewing area, how you visualize using the receiver, and what you have in the rest of your audio-video setup (TV, speakers, subwoofer, etc.). With that information, we could suggest a good receiver for you.

There are also many threads asking for recommendations like this, where people post info like the above, and you could see what suggestions were given to requirements matching yours. Oh, and don't forget to read the sticky thread "AVR FAQ" at http://www.avsforum.com/t/968859/avr-faq, to know what various terms mean when talking about receivers.

Of those 2, the Sony would be my choice. Reviews are generally very positive as to its sound but less so for its GUI interface. Plus it has built in WiFi and BT.
