first i've done the due diligence and cannot find a relevant thread searching this forum, so i'm hoping someone recognizes the issue i'm experiencing.
I realize this is an 8 year old tv and probably not a lot of users still running theirs but i like the damn 63" screen
It started a few months back, with the picture flashing white, kind of like when lightning flashes and lights up the sky - the picture is still there but certain sections go white, kind of like real strong contrast or the contrast being set too high
i changed the bulb with an OEM samsung bulb, and problem is still there. It doesn't do it all the time - might do it for a day or two, then stop. After installing the new bulb it didn't do it for almost 2 weeks. Then it started again. Did some research and found recommendations indicating the ballast should be changed with the bulb, so i ordered one off ebay (mistake) - described as new, but was obviously a reconditioned unit and the problem was immediately worse, so i put the orig ballast back in (btw, when i say original, i mean the one that came with the tv when new).
tonite it started the flashing after about 20 minutes of viewing, and did it dramatically stronger than usual, then it cut the tv off with all three lights blinking. Left it off for an hour or so, and it turned on and ran great for 20-30 minutes and started the flashing, much more mildly than earlier.
Could it be the ballast cooling fan or is this a symptom of the ballast going bad? The cooling fan by the bulb is turning fine plus i had installed a 2nd cooling fan outside the cabinet, kind of doubling the bulb's fan - i doubt i've doubled the CFMs it's pulling but it definitely helps - the air coming out with it on there is cooler than before, to my hand anyway.
tks for any assist
