Benq w7000 nearly new for around $1400 .... but no warranty

I am able to purchase a Benq w7000 for around $1400 but it is from an individual with no receipt but has an unopened box. My concern is that projectors tend to have a high failure rate. I could purchase external insurance for $400 for 1 year but that seems onerous. I know the safe advice is to get the insurance or to avoid the deal. However, the deal seems pretty good even with the extra risk. Are there any current Benq owners that could advise me? I'll also take any advise from any enthusiast like me. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

If u are going to pay $1400 plus $400 for insurance, I think you should buy a new one

Good point, blee0120. I just wonder though if an almost new w7000 for $1800 with 1 year warranty beats a brand new w7000 with a 15 day return policy.

You could but a new one for the $1800. I wouldn't mess with the used one, unless its someone you know and trust 100% who would be willing to give you your money back after a couple weeks if you ended up not liking it.

If it's in an "unopened box", then how is it "almost new"???? Wouldn't that make it new?

If you buy a new W7000 and its something wrong with it, you have the opportunity to get another that works. But if you want to try it out for 15 days to see if you actually like the projector, I think you should try to view on to see if its for you. When I sold my w7000, I like the guy come view it and took it over to his place also to see if it would work for him.

I agree. Call it new then. It has been at this person's house unopened.

I think I agree. Thanks for your input, guys. I'm going to pass on this deal.
