'The Bible' on History HD

Impressed!! Really enjoyed the first episode especially the way they opened the story with flashbacks from Noah speaking with his family on the ark. Acting, production and visual fx all high quality with a good sense of atmosphere. Some scenes felt a bit limited in scope (ie Ramses throne room) but CGI Egyptian city and slave worksite looked great. Seems like they hired the writers of 'Prince of Egypt' to tell their Moses/Pharoah/Exodus story (really that segment was practically a live-action version of the Dreamworks film.) Whole family is definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.

Glad you liked it biggrin.gif

Joel Osteen, a local in Houston has endorsed this show. Maybe he had something to do with it as well.

I think the project was well intended and a nice try, but falls short of expectations. I tuned in and I'm finding this mini-series flat and without appeal. The actors are decent, but lack the ability to bring me to care. As some literary license was used to dramatize these Bibles stories, they failed to bring much emotion to the scenes. A lot of the scenes seem under populated giving no real impression that armies are meeting. Case in point was the Sampson scene of bringing down the temple and destroying thousands when there had to be all of 10 people in the shot. A bit of CGI could have gone a long way here, but seems they spent the budget on the Noah segment. Battles seem more like skimishes and I'm reminded of Xena or Kevin Sorbo Hercules type productions.

The Exodus scenes were also cheesy, there were like 30-40 total isralelites? and when they were crossing the Red Sea you couldn't see the walls of water, just splashes of it (to be honest the Ten Commandments had better effects)

Both episodes good. Did notice when they held up the baby, it appeared to be wearing Pampers/Huggies.

I didn't expect CGI to be on the level of the effects in the Ten Commandments or the studio production of Sampson and Delilah, but in this day and age it should be better than what we've seen. I'm always amused when they show city scenes from ancient times using on site locations that look thousands of years old. The builders and architects weren't going for shabby chic back then. Many of those cities were spectacular in their day.
My apologies to those enjoying this series, but these forums are for critiqueing and so it goes with the territory.

I suspect the point of the series--apart from the business goal of making as much money as they can with any project--is to "introduce" Bible passages to seekers, and tip the hat to believers. The viewership numbers suggest those goals are being met to a favorable degree. Realism in the effects and scale would have been desired, but lower priority.

This is a cliff-notes version. Just generalities. So much information is left out it boggles the mind. That being said I have spent much time over the years studying the book, especially in regards to actual historical fact, so I am not the target audience. I'm sure this will all be new to some.

Still struggling to understand the Ninja Angels. tongue.gif

Hollywood is flabbergasted at the ratings. Even after the massive box office of Gibson's PASSION film, Hollywood continues to live in a bubble.

I caught the Saul /David segment and it reminded me of Spartacus lite. - no sex/nudity and only half the violence. They are definitely trying to package the Bible for the modern taste but I found it reduced the Greatest Story Ever Told to just some cheesy reenactment with no real heart or inspiring message. I might be jumping to conclusions based on the one segment. Perhaps the more awe inspiring events are better represented.
