What's your favorite remake(s)?

...With the upcoming Evil Dead remake, that quite frankly looks amazing, and also when I think about the Dead Man Down trailer featuring an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I thought well...clearly there are some great remakes out there... So let's see... I know we complain often about them, not to mention reboots, but here's a quick list of some great remakes (imo) that come to my mind...

In no particular order:

- Scarface. Does anyone even remember the original?...
- The Magnificent Seven. 7 Samurais is a masterpiece, just like the Magnificent Seven.
- Casino Royale. The original isn't even an official 007 movie, and while it has charm, the new version surpasses it on all levels.
- 3:10 to Yuma. My favorite "modern" western so far.
- The Thomas Crown Affair - probably my favorite Pierce Brosnan movie. And Rene Russo was sooooo sexy in this... I prefer this one over the Steve McQueen version.
- True Grit. ...still waiting for the first "bad" Coen Brothers film... Their True Grit is better than the original imo.
- Ocean's Eleven. Can you really go wrong with Clooney, Pitt, Damon and Soderbegh?

...There are many many others of course but that's all for now... Oh! yes of course, The Thing (1982), The Fly, hmmm..., anyway... what are yours? smile.gif

True Grit and Oceans were very pleasant surprises with very large shoes to fill but they both did spectacular!

I also enjoyed Amityville Horror with the great Melissa George, Inglorious Basterds, and I Spit On Your Grave. I'm sure there are some greats I am forgetting but off the top of my head.

I'd put Cape Fear in the same category as Scareface. Does anyone ( other than Bill McClain wink.gif ) remember the original?

The Ladykillers. Indeed, both a bad movie from the Coens and a bad remake.

Hey!

We old guys remember all sorts of stuff. As long as it's old stuff.

I do seem to prefer originals to remakes. The exception to the rule would be Battlestar Galactica.

3:10 to Yuma. My favorite "modern" western so far. - Agreed there.
Ocean's 11 - Not so much. These are two VERY different movies with characters of the same name and same basic plot. And as I recall, VERY different endings.

Mr & Mrs Smith - I liked. It had MUCH more action than the original.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) comes to mind.

Hurt - Johnny Cash

Take Me To The River - The Talking Heads

You Really Got Me - Van Halen

30 Days In The Hole / I Don't Need No Doctor - Government Mule

Street Spirit (Fade Out) - The Darkness

Like A Serious Man, it isn't a top-flight CB.
BUT it isn't a "bad movie," it's just OK (which for them is bad).wink.gif
