...With the upcoming Evil Dead remake, that quite frankly looks amazing, and also when I think about the Dead Man Down trailer featuring an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I thought well...clearly there are some great remakes out there... So let's see... I know we complain often about them, not to mention reboots, but here's a quick list of some great remakes (imo) that come to my mind...
In no particular order:
- Scarface. Does anyone even remember the original?...
- The Magnificent Seven. 7 Samurais is a masterpiece, just like the Magnificent Seven.
- Casino Royale. The original isn't even an official 007 movie, and while it has charm, the new version surpasses it on all levels.
- 3:10 to Yuma. My favorite "modern" western so far.
- The Thomas Crown Affair - probably my favorite Pierce Brosnan movie. And Rene Russo was sooooo sexy in this... I prefer this one over the Steve McQueen version.
- True Grit. ...still waiting for the first "bad" Coen Brothers film... Their True Grit is better than the original imo.
- Ocean's Eleven. Can you really go wrong with Clooney, Pitt, Damon and Soderbegh?
...There are many many others of course but that's all for now... Oh! yes of course, The Thing (1982), The Fly, hmmm..., anyway... what are yours?
