If I get a receiver that is 50w per channel should I find speakers that are rated 50w? Same for 100w and so on? Thanks

No. Its much more complicated than that. Get the receiver and speakers you want. Its unlikely you will run into trouble. Do you have anything specific in mind?

Want to make sure I select the right wattage speakers for my listening preference. 50W seems like not enough....IDK hence the reason for my question

Lets be more specific, which speakers and receiver are you looking at?

Wattage is one of the last things you should consider when trying to find speakers that will fit your listening preference.

Ok Bond, what are some of the first?

The type of speaker would probably be first since that can give you an idea of how they may sound. Frequency response, the Ohm rating, sensitivity, crossover and quality. But these are just indicators and good starting points. There is no substitute for listening to them.
