I checked many reviews before deciding upon this set including Australian sites. AVS is a valuable resource, but it's not the only resource.
Scott Wilkinson is a very knowledgeable reviewer who's opinion I value greatly. But - you should notice that several of the comments on your link were disappointed that LG was not included, and Scott said in the comments that he went by past reputation rather than a personal review of his own. As I posted on that review: "It is a bit disappointing that Scott seemed to base his reviews on other's recommendations and other reviews rather than having a look for himself."
Robert Wiley is also at the top of my list for LCD technology reviewers (Senior Editor of LCD TV Buying Guide). He reviewed all 3 LA7400s favorably (see link below).
LG is also huge in Australia and for all appliances - other than those with very deep pockets. My general impression of AVS members is that most fall into the deep pockets category - not all, but most. EG: I really enjoy the home theater presentations and Home Theater of the Month awards, but the price of these is well over double in Australia and simply not affordable for the vast majority of Aussies. $50,000 for a home theater in the USA is $120,000+ in Australia - which is more than I paid for my home. I've seen USA posts of the 55" set for under $1000. I paid $2400AUD for mine when our dollar was at parity with the USA dollar and have no regrets.
There are plenty of user reviews that rank the LA7400 models best or near the best at the price point:
LCD TV Buying Guide ranks it near the top for value and overall: http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lg-lcd-tv/lg-55la7400.html
C|NET users rank the 55" 5 out of 5 stars, but C|NET did not review the set here: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/lg-55la7400/4540-6482_7-35561844-4.html
Amazon users rank the 55" here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product-reviews/B00BBAFYWW/
The list goes on and on if you care to search for them.
