From what I saw in the store, it appeared that the 55-inch LG 55LA7400 had virtually no visible bezel along the sides and top. Along the bottom, the bezel is thicker and silver sort of like the Samsung TV you just returned.

The 55-inch Samsung 55F7100 has a very thin bezel along all four sides of the screen. Although it is very thin, it still appears thicker than the LG 55LA7400. Unlike the LG, the Samsung's bezel is the same thickness on all four sides of the screen.

Personally, I prefer the look of the Samsung 55F7100's bezel over that of the LG 55LA7400. If the look of the bezel is important to you (as it is to me), I strongly recommend that you don't buy the LG 55LA7400 until you've seen it in person.

My local Best Buy has the LG 55LA7400 on display, so probably one of the Best Buy's near you has it on display as well. The 47-inch LG 47LA7400 looks exactly like the 55-inch model except smaller.

There differences are discussed at great length on page 6 of this thread. Users have also reported that there is more light bleed on the model with the gunmetal frame and stand.

I just picked up this to replace a Samsung 60F7100. I have 2 questions:

1. Can the magic remote be programmed work with my DirecTV HR24? I go through the auto setup, have my directv box connected to HDMI1, but it only finds 2 remotes and neither controls my set-top box.
2. Does LG offer the same Smart guide as Samsung?

I decided to add my initial impressions based on a couple days with the 55LA7400, but am still wondering about my questions above before I make the decision to keep or return this set. The tv itself arrived perfectly from Amazon ina couple days. Great service as usual coupled with the terrible service I received from Best Buy, but I digress.

Likes:
The look of the tv is sleek and it looks borderless with the tv turned off. The actual border is very thin about .25” around ¾ of the screen and a slightly thicker border at the bottom of the screen. it also has a metal rim that surrounds the outer border of the tv. I really wanted a 60", but the bezel is thicker on the 60" version of the LG similar to the Samsung 60F7100 that I returned due to the bezel being thicker on that as well compared to their 55". The picture quality is very good and is comparable to the Samsung.

Dislikes:
Smart features (I use the term smart losely).
1. O/S. It looks like 2005 all over again, but it is generally responsive. I have also had to reset my connection three times in order to access these features. I am using wifi 2.4/5ghz router which is one room over. I did not have any connectivity issue with the Samsung, nor do any of my computers or phone
2. Banner. If you point to the top of the screen a screen overlay comes down slighty which is nice, but the input name on the top left is in huge ugly font. Otherwise the banner is serviceable and incudes "on now" on the right side. I much prefer the look and look of the Samsung smart features compared to the LG. Of course everyone’s opinion will vary on this.
3. “On now” feature shows 5-6 titles on the bottom of the screen. Every time I want to use this mostly useless feature I have to remind it that I only care about HD, not SD and not SD and HD channels. If you want to see more than 5-6 items you lose tv audio and video (idiotic) and then it’s more of a graphical representation of the guide instead of a grid style and again no option that I can find to change this.

The magic remote.
1. The click is so loud and annoying if you aren’t the one controlling the tv.
2. It won’t control my Directv HR24-a newer Directv HD-DVR receiver which is about 2-3 years old. I cannot even change channels let alone use the advanced features of the remote such as voice control to do any Directv related control. This renders most of the major features useless. If the remote was to work it looks like I would have to call up the Directv remote on my tv and then change channels that way? I know there are some gestures, but since I can't control my set-top box these are rendered mostly useless at this point.
3. The remote also lost connectivity (3 times) in less than 24 hours.

If this can be updated for use with Directv then I obviously will think the remote is better, but it still is finicky. I don’t think I like the Wii style way to control my tv and I constantly see the “no symbol” as I move the pointer around. Annoying.

Apps.
I haven’t used the apps long enough to comment on those, but I will say not having Amazon is another major disappointment, but I knew this before I purchased the tv so I cant complain about that.

Remote app.
The remote app for iPhone is ok at best. It is very slow and not formatted for the iPhone 5 (it’s only been on the market for a year.) The design of the app leaves much to be desired but it is better than the magic remote, but I still cannot change channels without my Directv remote.

These are initial impressions, but I just feel like the “Smart tv” is just not that smart. I do like the picture which is very important, but one of the major features was the remote and the tv being smart. After a couple days it’s a major fail for my setup so I have to make the decision to go back to Samsung or not.

I hope some of my concerns are flat out wrong, but again this is after about 2-3 days of usage so I still have a lot to learn about this.

Can somebody tell me how to use the teletext function with the magic remote pls? I am planning on removing the set-top box since this tv has the cam slot available, so I will not have the set-top remote control any more.

Newaver, I used your settings but it seems like the picture is really dark. Have you noticed that and tweaked them at all? Anyone else notice this?

I tried those settings too & really wasn't impressed with em. Too dark & no pop to the pic.

Are most people turning off Trumotion and Local Dimming?

I leave the local dimming on. Isn't that suppose to help with the blacks?

Yes, but at the expense of shadow detail. You can't get true local dimming on an edge lit TV.

if I turn it off won't there be more clouding?

So my 2006 Vizio P50HDTV10A plasma finally went to constant screen flicker forcing me into the new plasma/led market once again after all these years.

I was thinking of pulling the trigger on a 50" Panny ST60, but then some kind people in this forum alerted me to the ridiculous Microcenter $999 deal for the LG 55LA7400. I just bought it, and now I have 30 days to determine if I'm an LED or plasma guy.

I think it will come down to calibration. I have read the 20 point white balance settings on this thread, but I cannot figure how to access it. Whenever I go into expert mode, "expert pattern" is greyed out. So far, I'm not enthralled by the picture, but I figure it's just a matter of proper calibration.

The set is beautiful, and the deal is amazing. I just want the PQ to pop, or I might as well downsize by 5 inches and jump on the ST60 bandwagon. Anyone know of a website that guides me to properly accessing the 20 point white balance on this set? I do plan on getting an S&M calibration disc in the near future.

Has anyone tweaked the individual colors on this set? I'd like to adjust mine but don't know where to set each 1 at.

Does anyone have any idea why my 55LA7400 will (confirmed via speedtest.net) sometimes be fast enough to play back a full 1080p movie without buffering once (speedtest.net results show approx 40mb/s download and 10 mb/s upload speed through the TV's built in browser, and other times is so slow (speedtest.net results show under 1mb/s down and around 500k mb/s upload) that it cannot buffer enough to make it more than 5 seconds at a time?

Throughout the massive speed deviations I run speedtest.net on my laptop which is connected to the same wireless network, all the while it chugs along at around 50mb/s down and 10-15mb/s up.

My TV also streamed movies and TV from my laptop perfectly the first 3 months I had it. No settings have changed, no new hardware introduced etc. and now the TV can hardly stream anything. All firmwares are up to date.

first thing you do is hook it up with a cable and see if the same behavior still occurs. if it doesn't, then you've at least isolated the issue to your wireless network.. specifically the connection between your router and the TV. I assume you've done all the updates you need to do on both of those devices. Beyond that it gets difficult without some networking knowlege and/or enterprise class networking gear.

Does anyone know if the 55la7400 stand fits on the 55la6900 tv? I lost the stand for my 6900 and found seller with a 7400 stand.

I think LG is a little bit backwards with the logo. Why does it remain on when the TV is off but off when the TV is on? There's no option to have it remain on when the TV is on. Longest is 10 minutes.

Why on earth would you want a logo to be on when you're trying to watch something???????????

I'm sorry: a lit logo during watching is an insane idea to start with.  And LG isn't very good at keeping the firmware under control for it either.  Look at the LM8600 thread and see how many people are trying to get those settings to work so that they can actually turn OFF the stupid logo when the TV is on.  It finally resulted in LG sending them a usb flash memory key with special firmware on it.  LG even asks for the key back.  And some folks have the standby light broken as a result of the new firmware.  This angst went on for quite some time in that thread.

Just purchased a LG55LA7400. Everywhere ONLINE this TV Boasts 240hz. But nowhere in my users manual does it say this. Only 60hz. Not even on the box it came in. Also when my "magic Remote" hits the top right corner of the screen, 1080p/60hz comes up? What gives? Does anyone know why? Is this a true 240hz or is it 60hz?

I'm new to this forum, not sure how it works. Just in case I lose this page please email me if you know anything about this 240 vs 60hz thing.

Thanks

The panel is 120hz & 240hz with tru motion on. Most TV programming is in 60hz.

Hey guys,

I just got a 55LA7400 and I love it!

It is replacing a panny tc-p42st30 that had a fried circuit board and was taking forever to get because Panny was going through a 3rd party for the part.

Can wait to calibrate it before football season!

I assuming true local dimming exist only on full array models?

it uses pulse scanning (not back light scanning) bias on a 120hz native panel to simulate 240hz.

Thanks for the info. on the 60hz thing. Does anyone have any advice on how to calibrate this so that the images don't have fuzz/very slight distortion in them? Also, many reviews stated this set was semi ok for bright rooms. WRONG. Nothing but reflection. My husband thinks our Vizio (I know) the new M series 55" 3d was way better. How is that possible???? Even the 3D was better. Am I doing something wrong here???? I got my LA7400 55" for 1299.00 at Buydig.com on sale. But..I'm stuck. No returns. The TV is gorgeous but the picture isn't great. Like I said, Slight distortion in the faces. We have it in Eco mode and messed around with stuff in that mode to what we like. Anything else is too dark for our bright room. Any decent calibrations for vivid colors and crisp faces??? Please???

Try this settings on expert 1or 2...they may work 4 you or not. I just had best buy do a calibration on my set and before I was so disappointed in this set but since the calibration on Thursday I'm all in for this set!!!!! So please if you can afford it (it was free for me cause I'm a rewardzone silver member) get this set calibrated to your room lighting it makes a huge difference...and to the people with lighting issues I had them really bad at first...top left and bottom right corners it was nothing that I could do to minimize the bleed but after time the light bleed lessen and now it's 95% gone I only see it in a completely darken room while in letter box and then you really have to be looking for it(and this is with brightness at 90-95). This set is awesome...

I'm planning on getting my set calibrated either @ the end of next month or early in September. How long did the tech take to calibrate your set & did they access the service menu to make any tweaks?
