Hi guys,

a quick question on the dimension of the boxes of the UnxxF8000.
Im looking to ship one of these bad boys so I need to know the exact dimensions to calculate the cost.
Can anyone be kind enough to help me with the numbers of the 55, 60 or 65' versions.

Just to clarify...Im looking for the measurements of the BOX, not the TV itself!

Thanks

NIch

Not sure if this is a reliable and honest site... Good examples though... I would make sure they have the DVD region code for where you live...

SMART LED is not the same as a Smarthub app or feature. It is an important part of how micro-dimming functions with the F8000.

Got it, I thought you were saying you wanted the Smarthub features.

OK. Don't laugh. Some of you have probably never heard of it, but I have an SVHS recorder/player. It has been connected to my Sony Receiver, STRDG720 via an SVHS cable (for video) and RCA for audio.

The receiver had an SVHS cable to my old TV. My UN60F8000 has no SVHS in, so when I play a tape I can hear the audio via the speakers connected to the receiver, but the screen is black. Obviously the receiver is not converting the SVHS to something that will traverse the HDMI to the TV.

So, is there a way to use SVHS with this TV other than using the yellow composite?

Thanks!

Ever since I got the last update, every time I turn on the TV I now get an annoying pop up message that says "the tv's camera is currently deactivated". I have disabled gesture controls and even tried re-enabling and then disabling, but it still comes up. Is anyone else getting this message? Any ideas?

Is the camera currently closed?

Yup, but I never got this message before even with it closed (as long as I had disabled motion control).
Thats very strange. I would try to move the camera out, maybe even turn it on to test it with maybe camera app? Then close it again. See if message still appears. If it does, maybe try tinkering with motion control, turn it on..run through tutorial, then turn it off again.

Just trying to think of ways to make the TV realize, the message isn't supposed to pop up as it doesn't for anyone else's tv. Sounds like a bug for sure. if all else fails, a smart hub reset and then if that fails, reset tv.

Are there any keyboards for this tv that will work with the apps like netflix and youtube? According to the reviews of the samsung keyboards they do not work with the apps.

Yes by hitting "okay" and even if you don't it closes on its own after about 8 seconds or so. It only happens when you first turn on the set so it's not a major deal, but it really shouldn't happen and is clearly a result of the s/w "upgrade" since so many people are now experiencing it. I even set up motion control again and did some trouble shooting, but no help. The last update said it did something with motion control and so it's no coincidence. I added a macro to my Pronto remote to hit "okay" after a few seconds to close it.

My Direct TV DVR connected by HDMI to the UN55F8000. The UN55F8000 connected by Optical Audio out to a Pioneer VSX-1123 A/V Receiver. Will the Audio from the DVR pass through the UN55F8000 to the Receiver as Dolby Digital 5.1?
It should if program broadcasts in Dolby 5.1

No, it definitely won't. The only audio that passes from the Samsung to a receiver as 5.1 DD (regardless of whether it's ARC or via optical) is audio from anything where the video signal "originates" at the Samsung (OTA, Netflix, etc). If it's an external source such as a DirecTV receiver (or any STB, DVD player, video game console etc), it will only pass 2 channel audio. I have my DirecTV Genie connected via HDMI to the Samsung and then also have optical audio out from the Samsung to my A/V receiver and it only gets 2 channel audio. To fix this, I ran digital audio out from my DirecTV receiver to my A/V receiver and so now I have DD sound.

Oh, nahh. I'm really not into all these smarthub features. I will say the interface itself is very nice, and I do like the 3D streaming, but I rarely touch the apps in general. As long as I have ways to stream video from my pc to the tv, because I find that very useful. Most of the other smarthub features are just filler to me. I'm not completely against additional value features, it's just I find most of these not very valuable.

This has been driving me nuts. The camera is closed and I have it disabled in the menu and that message still pops up every time I turn on the tv. This needs to be corrected.
So I guess the consensus is - since we know nothing of what the new firmware actually does other than Samsung's canned release notes - that if you don't use the camera then don't update to the latest firmware unless you like nagging popups?

I'm on 1102 currently and so far the "do not update automatically" has worked (perhaps they fixed that in the 1102 firmware when it was released?).

Oops passed bum scoop, my apologies! I was going off Netflix via optical cable.

Well, I don't thinking it has anything to do with the firmware update, because since a few days I have the same issue. I have the EU version and last firmware update was more than a month ago.

I did a SmartHub reset, though, and played around with a few apps that use the camera. So I guess it's somehow caused by the SmartHub, but unable to pin it down yet :-(
