Probably they don't look into supporting it because most people don't even have receivers...soundbars are more of a norm it seems like. Most manufacturers go with what most people are using. I would love to see a "dumb" tv with F8000 blacks/brightness and color without 3D or any of this 'smart' crap but I doubt that will ever happen.

I do not know about other sources but like I said... I am getting xbox surround sound with it being plugged directly into my TV and sound going through toslink cable. I have been lazy and haven't switched the xbox to arc HDMI3 as its been working just fine for me with digital audio out. I can take pictures or make a short video when I have the time to prove it I guess....but with Xbox surround sound is functioning.

adigrimes is routing all of his HDMI sources through his receiver (where the 5.1 audio is decoded)  and when the TV is the source he is using the ARC feature of HDMI (Audio Return) to get the audio back to his home theater receiver.

Please correct me if I am wrong adigrimes.

Could be that Denon behaves better with the tv. I have a Yamaha RX-V475 receiver. I have both an Xbox 360 and PS3 connected directly to the TV and am using the ARC HDMI connection to deliver audio to the receiver. I have also tried using the optical cable and cannot get it to pass the 5.1 signal. The documentation for the tv says it can't be done via HDMI using ARC, it will only pass 2 channel audio.

The Prologic and .DTS Neo processing does work pretty well on my receiver, so I am satisfied with that for now.

What is frustrating is the fact that the Smart TV apps can pass multichannel audio via ARC, so there is something wonky with their implementation. Love this tv otherwise. No product is perfect.

I am routing everything through my avr BUT my xbox(and NOT via ARC). Somehow I am able to get surround sound from xbox, through tv, to my receiver through the SPDIF. I also have the smart apps I listed above pushing surround sound via toslink cable.

Are you telling me if I switch to ARC I loose surround sound for smart apps?!

I agree, the Denon must play nicely with this tv set. Wait...you said PS4, how is it on the F8000?
Ha, got next gen on my mind. Cleaned it up. PS3.

Has anyone udated to the latest firmware 1114.5 that came out on 10/25?

My TV updated just after configuration, I setup the WiFi, watched a little TV and it automatically updated overnight. In the morning the WiFi no longer worked, don't know what else stopped working as I did not try everything out the night before.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Setup your WiFi network -> enter your password for the WiFi -> The system tells you you are connected!

Go to use any app, or just test the network connection and it tells you you are not connected to the internet.

I tried over 5 times the same procedure, configure network, enter WiFi password, get connected, fails after that.

It is getting an IP address and correctly connects with the WiFi router, however won't connect when trying to use it with other apps.

I know it worked out of the box because I tried using the Netflix app on the first night and it all worked fine.  My guess is that the update broke some things.

What version of the firmware does your TV have installed?  I read somewhere that once you can get your TV Sound Output configured to Dolby, or DTS you can get all the output in Dolby and / or DTS.  Unfortunately I tried this only after the latest update and it does not work.

What I do get is Dolby, but only 2 channel.

I have 1115.4(you are on 1111.5 if you just updated this morning). The TV seems to remember DD was selected on netflix but when I play movies on networks I do have to switch between DD and DTS depending on what the audio encoded is.

I have taken a few pictures just to show it is hooked up that way and I am getting DD.

The last one just shows the sound option in bf3 as home cinema.

Where are those settings located
Those settings are specific to the Denon. Its a GUI overlay. I couldn't show it in the xbox menu as the AVR only has the SPDIF cord going into it.

The settings in the first two picures are in the xbox under console settings, sound. The 3rd picture is under options, audio(bf3 main menu). The 4th picture I only posted up was to verify that my "tv" as labeld on my AVR in first picture is in fact my digital audio in.

Trying to decide between the 60" and the 65". Is the 65" worth the extra $600 or does it bring other issues into play?...saw some posts regarding vertical banding. Others?
The 46" has banding eek.gif

Well I guess I did not get the update from Samsung.  I have been unable to get anything other than 2 channel sound out of my optical output from the TV.  I even tried updating to the latest firmware and no change.  I suppose since I don't have a receiver that supports ARC I am guessing that getting anything more than 2 channels is hopeless.

adgrimes - I really don't understand how you are able to get 5.1 out of your optical cable when you are using HDMI as in input.  My only guess is that since you also have an ARC receiver and thus probably selected "receiver" under speaker selection the TV handles your optical output differently.  The 'receiver' option is not available to me, only 'external speaker' since I don't have a ARC supported receiver.

IF you have a COAXIAL cable / antenna or clear cable channels , then you will get DD-5.1 from optical IF the station is broadcasting in DD-5.1.

That is it ! biggrin.gif

O__ 1114 is out and the Media Hub within the Smart Hub is now working , check out the "Digital Exclusives " in the TV section for some freebees !

@mtnscott  Which model of Samsung is this?? I'm thinking about getting one of their Smart TV's UN55F8000BF...

Ok, so will I be able to output 5.1 from the f8000 into my receiver via optical or spdif when my receiver does not support ARC and the tv/xbox input into the f8000 is hdmi?
Nope !!

To give you a better example , here is my setup :

F8000

I have plugged into it a CB / DVD player / Mac Mini / PS3 all by HDMI , however I still don`t get any audio from my DV-70AVi.

This is how I get 5.1:

I have a coaxial cable going into the tv , channels that are not blocked by Comcast and that broadcast in DD , I get DD !

ALL units are plugged into my Yamaha DSP-A1/G via Optical or Digital Coaxial cables.

For the TV - CB / PS3 / Mac Mini , if I want 5.1 then I power up my amp and turn down the volume on the F8000.

Keep in mind my amp might be older than you !! smile.gif

Later biggrin.gif

^^so still possible to get 5.1 but takes careful inputting and most audio are directly inputted to the receiver while video is directly inputted into the TV via hdmi? And you have one optical going from tv to receiver with a spdif from cable to tv?
Yes !!

All video to F8000 is via HDMI

All DD5.1 is via digital connection yo my DSP-A1.

What few in-the-clear I get from C , I use optical out from F8000 to DSP-A1

Later smile.gif

O___Cable Box also has optical out to my amp !

^^any audio sync issues with this setup?

Thx!
I had plans to wait for the Vizio 54 inch soundbar with decoding and hdmi. My inputs tivo, xbox would go to soundbar first then out to Sammy. I was wondering what issues that may create with the tv wanting to be the center hub and controlling other devices. Or issues with the black screen missing input message? I'm not sure if that's a issue with the f8000 or just the Sammy 4k.
Can anyone comment if this type setup would work. I'm not sure if I would get 5.1 from Netflix out the tv.

Maybe this is the reason? I am not even using HDMI 3 though(the ARC one) and I also have External Speaker selected. This is very odd that you have these issues, my receiver is ARC capable but I do not use it as I feel it causes more headaches then its worth...my harmony remote works just fine for me. I'm guessing your problem is receiver specific OR a problem with the TV.
Nope !!

Audio Sync is A-OK !

G.  biggrin.gif

Sound Bar ???? Why ???

The sound quality of the F8000 is only topped by the Sony XBR900 !

I rarely find the need to go past 20 !

I can`t say very many good things about the F8000 , but the sound is very good !

Here is my setup -

All of my video (SAT, BluRay, AppleTV) are connected via HDMI to a 4x1 HDMI switch with TOSLINK audio output (monoprice #5557).  From that switch I send the HDMI to the HDMI1 input on my UN55F8000 and the TOSLINK from the switch to optical input 1 on my Onkyo AVR.  NOTE:  My Onkyo AVR is pre HDMI so that is why I have the 4x1 HDMI switch w/ TOSLINK.  Lastly I have the TOSLINK output from the UN55F8000 connected to optical input 2 on my Onkyo AVR.

Now - when I use the native apps on the UN55F8000 I have to use either the internal speakers, or switch my Onkyo AVR to optical input 2.

When I want to watch my SAT, BluRay, AppleTV I have to switch my Onkyo AVR to optical input 1.  I select which source (SAT, BluRay, Apple TV) using the 4x1 switcher.  This is a great switch as it has TOSLINK output.

What I was trying to do was remove my 4x1 HDMI switch and use the UN55F8000 as my media hub.  Connect my SAT to HDMI1, BluRay to HDMI2, and AppleTV to HDMI3.  Then connect the TOSLINK output from the UN55F8000 to Onkyo optical input 1.  Then I could use the UN55F8000 to switch between my SAT, BluRay, AppleTV and native Smart Apps with Dolby 5.1 going to my receiver from the UN55F8000.

Well since the TOSLINK output from the UN55F8000 does not support Dolby 5.1 passthru when viewing a HDMI input the configuration I was trying to achieve appears not possible. Maybe with an ARC compatible AVR?  I don't know since I don't have an ARC AVR.

IMO its a shame to have a 'smart' TV but can't use it seamlessly in a theater setup.

Lastly, the performance of the 'Smart' apps seems slower than the similar apps on the AppleTV.

Do you get Dolby Digital when using the native Apps?

Dolby 2/0  - So only 2 Channel.

Scott when you are playing...say netflix, do choose a film that states dolby digital 5.1 then go into the app settings in netflix and ensure to select dolby digital. Continue into the TV menu sound options and under Digital Audio Out select Dolby Digital. Let me know if that helps.
