I wouldn't worry about IR with modern plasmas. It's mostly a non-issue. I think if you buy a plasma you have to resign to a little temporary IR from time to time but I wouldn't let it worry you or influence what you do with your panel, just enjoy it.

Perhaps I should have been a little more clear. I wasn't necessarily recommending against the F8500 in a bright room. It was more that I was recommending the F8500 over the F8000 in a dark room. This is where I think the F8500 excels, and the F8000's flaws become more exaggerated. In a bright room, both sets would be a great choice, although I tend to lean slightly toward the F8000 simply because you don't have to worry about IR or ABL.

I had a 65VT50 that had a large OPPO logo so severely IR'd into the center of the screen after only being up for 15 minutes prior to the screen saver kicking in that it could be seen on any light or dark grey background. I returned the set after about 7 weeks and it still had a visible Oppo logo the day it was picked up.

It's definitely not a non issue.

I have had a couple of Late Model Plasma's That IR was no longer a issue. I worked on one 2 - months to remove a Fox logo and about a month on another. There will always be IR concerns with Plasma's it's just the nature of the Science behind it. They have made great strides in this, but it's not over with or will it be.

IT'S DEFINITELY NOT A NONE ISSUE.

I have the 60f8500 and I can tell you it's amazing. The colors are unbelievable and the picture is bright. I haven't noticed any ir issues at all. What I do notice is judder and it's a deal breaker for me. When you turn on the motion judder canceller, it stutters like crazy. With it off the image is not smooth. I am coming from an lcd so people tell me that i would notice the judder more because of that. From what I am told by the people in the 8500 forum it's an issue with all plasmas. Additionally my tv buzzes. Tv's a directional buzz and it annoys me. So that's why I'm hear as I'm considering the f8000. But the issue I'm worried about is stuttering. Someone mentioned that it stutters. Does it stutter with amp on smooth? Also can anyone comment on the CE dimming that people were complaining about that the ES8000 had. Did Samsung give you the option to turn off CE dimming?

Lots of problems with the space for my Home Theater System. But I did some research and figured it out. I just did not want any glare on my screen but the speaker placement bothered me. If I stick a speaker in the back corner can I get 6.1 rather than 5.1?

I tried hgtv as someone noticed stuttering on it--I saw it to, almost like a half stutter but it was discussed this stutter is showing up on most tv's so it's possible it's not the tv. (But somone told you this 2 days ago). Although I do have some settings applied to the auto motion plus(custom, blur reduction 10, judder reduction 5, led clear motion off). Someone was worried about stuttering on tennis and golf, I uploaded a recorded tennis clip that was already on YouTube...they thought it stuttered at 1:05. I haven't noticed any stuttering but maybe I'm not hypersensitive to it like others.

Stupid Samsung all of your different terms. Which setting is considered CE Dimming this year? Smart LED, Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast???

Click on the source...option to delete it.
From here, you can also rename each source to what you desire it to be.

Thanks for the feedback. I know someone mentioned it a couple of days ago but I was hoping to get more feedback or maybe even hoping someone would say its been resolved this year. that's my biggest issue and I'm surprised it's not talked about more. For me it's a show stopper as I mentioned so I'm looking at other brands but I'm not sure if it's a problem with all brands with motion smoothing?

As far as the CE dimming, maybe it's called smart led but I can't be sure.

My 55 from 6 feet using mostly buzzard's settings. The camera overstates the non-uniformity I see by eye, so now I'm leery of these online photos showing "defects."

I get some minor corner sort-of-flashlights on same cropped image movies, but I don't see that in this test pattern.

And thanks for your earlier ice fishing offer, but, I think I'll stay right where I am during the cold months because I can catch these all day long right from my yard....

I agree and have a babied, properly broken in Pio 940 Elite to prove it. My Panasonic GT30 has been returned under extended warranty for burn in as well - replaced by my F8000. Moved the 940 Elite into my garage and replaced it with a 46" EH6000. As much as I like the plasma pq I'm done with the technology. I did everything that's always recommended to minimize or eliminate IR or burn in potential with both TVs and still got burn in on both.

By having AMP in custom mode with both blur and judder set to..0..would that not be the same as having the AMP mode set to clear?

I always thought Clear, Smooth and Standard were just different presets of blur and judder values, though I may be mistaken (perhaps they're doing extra processing I don't know about). Custom lets you fine tune and specify your own values. But yes, if you select Clear, then it's not going to use your custom settings unless you select Custom.

Yea, that's what I always thought as well. I've never been able to use the Custom Settings all that well so I always use Clear.

I found this on Samsung's website a few months ago. I think the same settings should also apply on the F8000.

I have yet to get Skype to work on only external speakers via digital audio out from tv.

No go for me as well with optical out. No sound at all.

Looks like we found a glitch. frown.gif

Now...who should it be reported to, Skype or Samsung?

*EDIT*
Did a quick google search and came across this from a Skype Staff Member on their support forums:
"No, you cannot use exernal speakers with Skype as they will affect echo cancellation and results in a poor call experience."

Does anyone else have a Onkyo TX-NR717 receiver setup with their new F8000? I've been trying to get ARC to work, but with no luck. I'm using a optical cable from tv to receiver now, but would like to eliminate it and use the HDMI when watching content from the smart hub. All my HDMI cables are v1.4 and also I have switched them out. I have everything set in the receiver according to the manual.
Cable hook-up = HDMI out ( main ) from receiver to HDMI 3 ( ARC ) tv. Would appreciate any help.
