Why do you wish to buy from crutchfield? If I were on a budget I would be just trying to get the best TV that reached my budget. For me that meant going to Best Buy, utilizing my friends premier membership(used his phone number) for returns, and had them price match the tv to a much cheaper price that was online.
I'm pretty sure many people had issues with both 60" and 65" sets on the ES series. Since nobody really has the F 60"/65" we do not know if the problems are corrected. If ES series is where your budget is...get that. I personally wanted the most current model tv so that hopefully small things were worked out from previous model. Its unverified as nobody has torn apart the TV's but they have different hardware/filters that produce different image quality. The panels are the same though. Both are great TV's especially if you do not nit pick and read these forums to much(they will teach you trade craft how to recognize bad picture quality).
There are ES owners that follow this thread. I'm sure some will put there 2 cents in. But you could as them the same question...why did they get the ES model and not the D model? Probably because they wanted the "latest" greatest thing. One thing it sounds like the ES had going better for it though....it had better response time for gaming (I have gamed and have no complaints on my F model though).
The F series allows you to control the dimming I believe through our "Smart LED" feature in the US(not euro model). Does the ES have this feature?
If I didn't have a TV yet, I would definetly buy the F series over the ES series again if I could get it for the same price I did. If I had MORE money to spend, I probably would go for the sony local array dimming model. To push your price further, would you consider a F7100-F7500 model and get a larger size?

On your FiOS STB, are you using the digital out of the Sammy for sound? My setup is HDMI from my STB (DirecTV HR34) to the Sammy, and when I try to use digital out from the Sammy to my Denon, that's where it won't let me pick DD., so as an alternative I have digital out from the STB to my Denon in order to get DD.
Would love to be able to fix all this - it seems strange that my Sammy would play DD thru optical out when using Smart Hub apps, but won't allow it when using my STB.
I checked the only thing I am using my digital optical out for--smart hub. I am able to get DD through netflix if the movie had it. I was getting other options depending on age of movie.
I also got DD on amazon if the movie source had it 5.1 listed.
I do get DD on my FiOS tv as well if content has it, if not...its the upmixing feature.Edited by adgrimes - 4/22/13 at 11:20pm
