This year's VE Flat Panel HDTV Shootout evaluation was announced as being held the weekend of May 10 (Friday) and May 11th (Saturday), in Scarsdale, NY.

I look forward to it each year, and once again it's going to be streamed live.

Wonder if he'll get an LG OLED in time?

i would not wonder about that_there will be no LG 55'' OLED present in the USA in may 2013

and we ain't gonna see a 4K TV...

The Sony HX950 is basicly the HX929 so that's not interesting.

The 2013 Panasonic/Samsung Plasma's will be fresh on the market so no user complaints and reviews, to early for a shoot-out participation IMO

I would like to see the LG OLED and i want to know wether or not the Samsung 4K 85S9 is a full array local dimming ( in case it is i would like to see it participating. Will not happen, TV is too expensive, they ain't gonna give it to ya smile.gif).

I have a feeling the competition will lie between the ZT60 and F8500, maybe the F8000 will improve upon last years ES8000, or atleast here's to hoping it does.

Should be interesting to see these FP's pushed to their full potential.
Considering that the ZT60 will be out in May, I would be shocked if it were not included. Why do the shootout on May 10th without it. Same with the F8500. I seriously doubt there will be an OLED. We will have to go to London to see that one. I would also expect maybe the Sharp Elite. Otherwise, it will be a Panny Sammy event.

The Samsungs are already out of the gate, so that's 2 months of user complaints or reviews filtering in. Despite the Panasonic set having barely arrived (or pretty close to release), I don't see that as problematic since the shootout is not meant to evaluate reliability or long-term problems.

My excitement in seeing the LG OLED has been diminishing steadily for the last six months, so it would be no major loss.

I think most of us here on AVS have been continually "let down" by both LG and Samsung in the OLED arena. I'm in the boat as you, my excitement for the EM9600 has dwindled and continues to dip weekly. I honestly do help it'll make it into the shootout to see how it stacks up against the previously mentioned competition, or vice versa.

I wouldn't complain if it was there mind you. I just won't be upset if it isn't. wink.gif

The purpose of the shootout, is to see the panels capabilities. The problems/defects will come out later.

This would be my dream shootout.

LG 55" OLED
Sony 84" 4K
Samsung 85" 4K
Panasonic 65" ZT60
Samsung 65" F8500
Sony 65" 4K
LG 65" 4K
Hisense 65" 4K (because of $3500 price)
Sharp Elite 70" (previous winner LCD)
Panasonic VT50 65" (previous winner plasma)
Pioneer 60" Kuro (former legend)
Sharp 4K 60" Purious (because it is the best TV in the world and my dream shootout)

He'd have to hold it somewhere else. He hardly has room for the the sets he had last year. LOL

I think they where considering renting a place to hold it for future shootouts to fit everyone on one night instead of two. Also, they would have to be exceptions made for many of the sets like the OLED, as they could not be randomly pulled from his inventory, but would be provide directly by the manufacture, do to availability issues and huge price tags.

VE has a much bigger store now.
I'm in VE's new store now. Very nice layout. The main room can easily hold 50 to 60 people. The shootout wall is being designed and assembled while we're visiting. Very exciting seeing some of the plans.

How about an AVSForum meet and greet at the Shootout? Anyone else going?

I will be there on Friday.

It would be nice if they could have someone moderate the online Live Chat during the shootout. Last year and the year before, there were several jackasses online posting crap and were insulting D-Nice, Robert, Panasonic, and starting arguments with other members in the chat lounge.

There was plenty of useful discussion and comments and questions in the Live Chat so it is useful, but it was really irritating to wade through all the garbage that a handful of trouble-makers were posting there. It's nice to be able to ask questions and comment during the show, but the trolls really ruin the event.

Would it be possible for someone to moderate and just delete the obviously adverse posts real-time then block that user so he's unable to disrupt the chat?

I checked with Robert and the chat room will be policed this year.

Excellent. Thank you for checking, and thank Robert for doing this. Trolls are like internet graffiti, they take great pleasure in ruining stuff for other people and i can't stand all the immature jack-assery.

Yeah, as long as everyone says good things about Panasonic you'll be OK won't you?

Pathetic.

I'm sure D-nice will once again be hogging the Panasonic remote, changing settings in the middle of people looking at the sets, pointing out all his inside info about them to push the voting toward them again as usual.

Sorry you can't handle criticism and reality.
I have serious reservations that the ZT60 will be on the market by the shootout date.
My information is that all the stops are being pulled out to have a ZT60 at the event, regardless of whether they are yet for sale.
Well, I certainly hope it is a production model and not a demo unit. I'd rather the shootout be rescheduled than not have a production ZT60 in it.
I have confirmed with Robert today that a random production model of the ZT 60 will be included in he shootout. In fact, two units will be on hand. Also included will be he VT 60. The ZT 60, VT 60 and the 8500 will all be butted up against each other on the display wall. There will be other displays included as well but I have not been advised what they will be.

Hopefully the trump card of an LG OLED. ;D

I wonder what Best Buy will feel about Panasonic not living up to thier "exclusive" deal? Unless they plan on shipping a non-forsale unit to every dealer that's not supposed to get one till august too?
