Has anyone looked at both sets and have an opinion between the two?

Curious as to whether the higher price tag is worth it.
They tested very close, we wrote a review on both units.

Yes, I agree heartily. They are totally different. Sorry to have even mentioned it. It was in the context of Samsung possibly releasing a firmware fix.

Gotcha. If its logic board related its a bigger deal than a normal FW upgrade.

Sure looks like they love it. Lets see if they detect any pops.

True, unless it's engaged with no option to turn it off?

Yeah, reading the patents, it appears to fundemental engineering design desision. There's a good possibility that it's not even logic board related.

But I wouldn't expect excessive crosstalk or any real "downside" from a TV rated 5/5 and "Superb". For me it will only be VT or ZT that potentially competes with F8500

Seems as if David K. may have made a mistake during his review of the ST60 in regards to 3D quality. He didn't engage the 48hz. or 96hz. modes which can actually be done and will reduce crosstalk. Still waiting for confirmation on this.

The 3D has been said to actually be quite good by many owners.

Of course they review the ST60 first before the 8500, I figured they would...

Really doesn't matter seeing the F8500 is a higher end TV, the F8500 is in with the VT and ZT class .. That said my guess its the ST60 will still be the best mid-level plasma like the ST50 was..

Anyone having buzzing issues? On my 2nd set which is a buzzer...tried everything outlets, surge protectors..It shifts intensity with picture modes or bringing up the smart hub GUI....I love the PQ for me Prometheus was the test and the set passed with flying colors. I'm not talking about a buzz you can hear when you put your mug behind the set it self. I'm talking about a buzz that you hear from 7 to 8 feet away. It's definitely the panel when I use the picture off command in the GUI the buzz goes away when the panel is completely off. All these panels were from a online store that associates itself with a very popular furniture chain here in New England. Like i said really really like the panel..I'm going to give it one more chance and buy it from the local retailer.

Can anyone confirm if there is a 300 MHz HDMI chip in the f8500? 1080p 3D support at 60 Hz rather than 24 Hz is extremely important to me.

All Plasmas will buzz to a degree and it is usually directional. Some people are more sensitive to the frequenxy. Th eone thing that has actually been reported across the boar is the minimal amount of buzz if any with these sets.......Usually with buzz you dont hear it once you ahe the TV speakers at normal volume or if you move a degree off center......

So far I'm blown away by this TV.

Coming from my D7000 I am absolutely thrilled with the stable brightness and the Smart TV features are actually very useful compared to the D series - that nice processor makes all the difference.

Does anyone know how to make it so the TV doesn't go into that mode when you first turn it on - the one where you have to choose the source or whatever? I'd prefer it just to go to the input it was last on.

Yeah the New Smart Hub + quad core cpu makes everything really fluid and even enjoyable to flick through and use. Much better layout and smoothness compared to the last iteration. Skype and camera actually works well too.

And the picture quality really is quite stunning.

Prometheus in 2D or 3D?

I have buzzing I can hear on my couch at times almost 12 feet away. But it's only if I sit dead center and only on certain kinds of content and only if the house is totally quiet. It's easily drowned out by any audio.

To go straight to the input, try going to Smart Features in the menu and select "On TV Settings." Now go to "Auto Start" and turn it off. That should do it.

Thanks a ton!

Also, the buzzing on this set is much less than on my D7000. Really pleased with this set so far and I hope it continues. Watching hockey on this set is a big upgrade from my other plasmas.

Thank you Ph8te for the video.
This looks very good too.

I was wondering how would the makeup demo look on a plasma since it had lots of bright scenes.

I know of no Samsungs from the past several years that do not provide a provision to turn Dynamic Contrast off.

If that's the case, then the search continues for what Cal Day does differently relative to popping. Aside from the differences in the calibration settings itself, I still wonder if there isn't something that's engaged or disengaged by Samsung that might be unknown to the calibrator.

This is a very different panel than Samsung has made in the past.

Does anyone know I'm considering the VT60 or the F8500 the 8500 has a quad core does the VT have the same? I'm thinking the quad core doesn't make the set better but it's needed to run all the smart TV stuff that the duel core couldn't keep up with. please let me know if I'm thinking correctly here.

First, number of cores in two unknown CPUs means squat. I have a hex core Phenom. I'm pretty sure a quad or even dual core i7 will kick it to the curb on most tasks.

Second, yes, the processor from everything I've read is for the UI. doesn't do anything for your PQ.

Personally, I would love to be able to buy something with same PQ as 64f8500 and no 3D or smart features whatsoever for, oh, $500 less tongue.gif

Web Browser - Search History...Has anyone found a way to clear the search history...When you click on search box, a new window opens....and you can search...and it keeps a list of RECENT searches...seems to do this even with Private Mode on....any way to clear...have explored all settings and does not clear? Thanks.
