Is there a setting on the TV I'm missing because I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.
I had the exact same issue today with my new 64F8500. If you go into the smart features menu there is an option to reset the smart hub. Once I did this all of my apps appeared. It did take a few minutes for everything to load. If you can't find the reset option let me know and I can give you the exact location. I am not in front of my set right now.

I had to do a reset on my smart hub. Just go to menu and then to smart features and reset is clear at the bottom.

I see the band with a steel image too. Not only in panning scenes. Mostly in snow scenes plus blue sky scenes. I am reading that others swapped their sets and got band free new tvs. I am concerned about the issue. Dont know what to do...

Thanks everyone...I figured it out. I kind of went the long way about it though. I did a full reset of the TV and then did the setup again. Apparently I missed the Smart App accept/agree check in the setup menu. Don't know how that happened.rolleyes.gif Thanks again!

I debated for weeks about whether or not to switch the set. I was so hung up on the various issues I could never enjoy my new TV. It sounds like you are in the same boat. It isn't worth losing sleep over and if you can't have a pleasant viewing experience because of the banding then the only option is to swap it or return it. I have definitely learned there is no perfect TV on the planet. No matter what you get there will always be some minor issue. Banding that is visible is a major issue in my mind. It all comes down to what is acceptable for you because you are the person watching the TV.

+1

I feel exactly the same. Its crappy to even be put in that situation by a product, but you'll feel better if you do something about it whilst you still can.

If you are concerned then exchange the set, at least thats what I would do...

Dont forget to write down the color space - custom settings too.

There are levels below the user menu that might be changed. There are levels below the service menu that might be changed. Most probably any firmware change will be deep down in the electronics and not obvious in the settings of either the user or service menus. Off hand, I cannot think of any in the past seven years where changes in the user menu were made by a firmware update. However, even if settings are not obviously changed, picture quality can be effected.

I know most of those in this thread and the lurkers a like are greatful for the "sacrifices" mae by those who got htings done early. No one, could have known that they would have gotten something out so quickly. Esepcially when you ahve a tour coming though sometimes its worth the risk.....

Quick question about the F8500's horizontal band issue - is this issue isolated or more prevalent on any particular size?

it appears to be dominant on the 64" for those who have/had the issue.

OK, thanks for the info. I'm considering pulling the trigger on a 60".

By the way my set had all kinds of issues and that was part of the reason for switching it out. I am a happy camper now!!

I'm interested in knowing where you purchased your TV, if you don't mind letting that info become public. I ask, as it appears an important part of purchasing this TV is the ability to easily swap it out if needed. What national retail stores are easiest to work with on a TV swap?
Was in a local BBY earlier this evening and each of their 60" and 64" floor models had the band issue, although the 60" was slightly harder to see. I wonder if it was a bad production run or something, and if so, if its possible for a Sammy tech to fix the TV if it is not possible to find one without the band in your local area.

I'm getting a swap now, 1 dead pixel and the band, it would just bug me and I'm not paying £3000 to put up with it.

I will probably just run the WOW calibration then probably watch nothing static for first 100 hours. After that, then rerun the WOW again unless there are some better suggestions on here from the Pro's.
Any suggestions on which Blurays to watch that show maybe the deepest blacks etc...? cool.gif

Watchmen is a good one as well

not a great movie...but tons of thematic material for testing of blacks and shadow detail

Best Buy and I am a Premier Silver Member which gives me a 60 day return period.

What is a "Premium Silver Member?" Do you have a link to the part of the BB website that describes that or could you let us know more about it?
Thanks.
