How many updates has the US had since launch? we've had 1, from 1003 to 1004.7.

Thanks, we should be due one soon then. What are the prices like for the 64"?, nothing below £2899 here, still waiting for a decent drop for a price match.

You are in the right place but the thread has been hijacked by the owners of a dead TV.

These owners:
1- They ditched the F8500 by calling it half cheaper than their kings, dirt, and so many other names
2- They know that they are not buying the F8500 as an alternative to their old sets
3- Yet they come here and continue with the same points over and over biggrin.gif

if this is not bragging then what it is?

I'm just wondering if their TV thread is already dead hence they are coming to this thread as it is more active and popular wink.gif. Consumers are not interested to read threads of a dead TV or tech, so how can these people get their audience to brag about their sets? by going to more popular threads of more popular TVs wink.gif

Just letting everyone know I got the 1102 update auto pushed to my tv this morning.

Usually we cant talk street price here wink.gif unless of course its in teh deals forum, I havent seen prices stear too far away formt he 3200-3400 range (USD) with one deal reaching as far as ~2800. Usually you dont see that many breaks on prices since Samsung has institued "fixed" pricing on their models since last year I believe.

The exception to that thought is if Samsung does not come out with the firmware update before it starts mad.gif

I'm going to have to make a decision about returning the F8500 when the shootout ends. It would be great to have all the cards on the table by then, but if I'm being totally honest with myself, I think I've already decided to return it and try out the ZT60. It's a big investment and I plan on having it a very long time, so I don't want to have any regrets.

Soooooo, what I'm hoping for most right now is that the ZT60 turns out to be an absolutely stunning panel. Go Panasonic goooooo!!! wink.gif

If you stop responding to these posts and making certain statements however, eventually they will stop(at lest for the most part), by continuing to feed into the discussion it only leads to more discussion. My best advice is to just ignore it and move on smile.gif ....If there is a post that adds nothing to the conversation dont quote\respond and just report it and let the mods deal with it.

Let us know if you see this fixes the popping & floating blacks...if you saw these in the first place. smile.gif

I have seen the brightness 'pop' before. It looks to me like when a laptop gets the power plugged in and the screen brightness gets brighter.
I use the tv as my computer monitor almost exclusively, and the popping only happens when I am reading books with white pages....

It's just sad really, I won't respond any further and get sucked into it.

This TV continues to impress me more every day, exactly what I wanted, it can be whatever I want it to be, whether that's an eye melting LED look or a very detailed dark scenes traditional plasma look, then everything inbetween cool.gif

If you choose to reply to said post, then it gets dragged out. This point was made earlier in the thread as well, I was just bringing it back up wink.gif If there is a post that you feel adds nothing to the convo report it, thats what the red flag is there for smile.gif

Ha ha, we can talk about other irelevant TVs but not how much the F8500 costs? confused.gif You're getting it cheaper in $ than we get it in £, you certainly get good deals.

This is the thing: they've stopped R&D, maybe it'll stop for Samsung, too, but what is the turn around time for incorporating this into an actual product that can be purchased? Were they doing R&D for 2015 already before they stopped funding that? No one really knows.
One might be concerned if issues will get addressed without R&D. We know Panasonic pulled the plug here but Samsung did not. Just something to think about it.
Did anybody calibrated their set?
Cnet said their calibration had just a slight improvements to the PQ on movie mode.

People should learn that once a technology is gone then it is gone. same thing for a brand.
I still find here and there people who are crying on Toshiba's HD DVD technology. Whats the point?
Live with what is available now and move on. Crying on a gone tech will do no one any benefit wink.gif

i'm going to disagree here.

on one hand i'm totally frustrated and tired of hearing about how awesome the kuro is, and I don't like that many kuro owners are starting to assume it will continue to be the best plasma ever made. that seems counter-intuitive to me, it's only a matter of time before it's de-throned.

but it's absolutely crucial that we compare new models to previous ones. aren't you interested to know how the new panny's compare to last year's? wouldn't you like to know to how these new TV's compare to the one you have now?

the first thing I do when shopping for a tv is dig up old reviews on my current tv to use as a baseline. then I make a list of the things I wish were better and the things i'm happy with. it doesn't make sense to not buy a tv because it's input lag is 'too high' when it's actually less than your current tv that your happy with.

so yeah, it's annoying hearing about it all the time, but only because it SHOULD have been beaten by now. manufacturers have chosen to make more economical choices and purists have suffered because of it.

there's a difference between somebody saying 'don't buy the vt60, or f8500 because the kuro still had better blacks and better ansi contrast' and somebody saying 'the vt60 produces an image nearly as black as the kuro(but not quite) and gives us the closest comparison we've seen to it's ansi contrast so far'. you can acknowledge both the fact that buying a kuro isn't an option, and the fact it may still provide a better picture in certain aspects. information should never be a bad thing when making a decision. if you don't want to worry about the kuro, you don't have to. but i'd feel awfully bad for the kuro owner who spends 4grand on a new tv and finds out he prefers the kuro picture better because we weren't allowed to compare the two.

kind of like saying we shouldn't compare LED to plasma because they are different tech's. ultimately they do the same job, and I want to buy the one that provide me with my favourite picture quality. I would find it quite annoying to have to buy the best plasma and best LED and do in home comparison just to find out what should be easy to describe online. and when OLED comes out, aren't you going to want to hear how it compares to both plasmas and current LED's? not just compare the OLED's to other OLED's and assume they are all better

I agree. US consumers are so lucky to get these prices.
Here the 64 E8000 costs around $4,200. Would not be surprised if the F8500 will cost around $6k - $8k

I dont make the rules wink.gif take a look at the thread title....This rule hasnt been enforced much recently, but usually those that have been around for a little while know to keep street price out of the main threads and save it for the "Plasma Deals" section wink.gif

Good thing, I will be doing the same.
I'm really glad you are enjoying this set. I hope I will enjoy it the same way too bec like you I love LED brightness and clarity but the same time I want plasmas black levels and contrast.

Can you let it go. You might have to eventually upgrade your display. If it's not with an F8500, it'll be with something else.

Doesn't fix any of the 3D brightness fluctuations for me. Intro to Prometheus is, sadly, the same.
Well I think it safe to say I am glad I returned my set and didn't wait for the update to come. I would be out of my return window. Does anyone really think they are going to be fixing this issue?

Well it would be weird to ahve the update on the CNet review set as well as giving it to Robert from VE without releasing it publicily. The quesiton should rather be when not if wink.gif I dont think everything will get fixed and some of it people may just need to either live with or choose a different set.

You made the right decision for you though smile.gif
