What do YOU like about YOUR F8500, or one that you've seen?
For now i like the big box!!!
You know, that's one thing I noticed. The box is very thick, especially compared to the Panny boxes lol. I have no idea where I'm going to store it. The packaging is pretty supportive though so I am definitely keeping it for when I decide to relocate at some point.

I saw some talk about the bezel. The bezel looks perfect IMO, it blends in with the rest of my stuff and I've always preferred brushed metal vs gloss. I think the bezel is pretty cool. The stand feels a lot sturdier than the Panny stands and the TV doesn't wobble when I have to move it. The pads under the stand also allow movement easier than Panny stands. Really comes in handy when all TV's this year are lacking swivel stands, at at least it doesn't look like an ugly cheap octopus.

Correct, I worked in a aluminum plant for a few moths, many moons ago.......lol. They brush it to look a little rough like it is. They would polish it to give it a glossy finish.

aluminum is expensive, I am sure it is very thin........

BTW, someone over in the Samsung line bleed thread said the F8500 has line bleed. However, mine doesn't. They said I was very lucky. So, any owners here have any line bleed? I want to know if this plasma is just good at what it does or if I'm lucky. If I'm lucky, then I feel like my observations are mis-representative of the F8500.

Using two images the fella uses to test line bleed, I took two photos of my set. You can see them here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1083853/does-your-samsung-plasma-suffer-from-horizontal-line-bleed/200_50#post_23331020 So, if possible, any other owners seeing line bleed on those images? Here are the two test patterns if you want to try them out: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1083853/does-your-samsung-plasma-suffer-from-horizontal-line-bleed/200_50#post_23330540

Wohooo I'm famous ... I'm famous
To those who probably have a great life and lots of time to spare, why don't you open a fan club for me? If you are that interested in me smile.gif
I suggest you to do that instead of deviating this wonderful thread from its main subject and purpose.
I guess some people cannot tolerate that this thread and this particular TV getting so much love from the public and that it is the most discussed and active thread on this site smile.gif
If you don't have any interest in the TV why are you even here? Is it lack of interest of anything valuable in life? Or probably is it jealousy?
Nice try, but that has failed too. Thinking of something else now?

Great to know that the pads below the stand allow easy movements, this is important as it is not a swivel stand. Before I used to prefer the swivel stands like the one that was in E8000, but after looking carefully at this stand in person it became my new favorite

Hey Moon, how visible is that line in your viewing materials? Noticeable? Ignorable? Cannot be seen?

Boy, girl or whatever, love your sense of humor Hali and really enjoy your posts smile.gif that´s all i care. Keep posting wink.gif

It will be very interesting and looking forward to read your review since you own LCD´s (like me) and this will be your first plasma (guess i´m not the only one in the same situation).

+1, 2, 3, 4, 5.......... (and counting....)

Oh, dear..... I promised myself to stay away from this thread till at least i can order the F8500 (unfortunately it´s going to take longer than expected mad.gif) but just couldn´t resist and i find pretty sad, the bashing towards some forum members that has been going on in the last few pages.

Ken, I'm eagerly waiting to read your review about this TV once you have it. I know you have written quite a lot already but having the TV right in your living room sure would be different. I value your opinion and words very highly and love to see how you evaluate the TV.

Hey cat, thank you. Never mind, that is normal in these kind of forums.
I will keep posting and I will write my review of the TV too.
Tell me when do you think you would pull the trigger?
Yea I'm LCD fan and always wanted to try plasmas but what prevented me always was the waxy look on the upper layer of screen, but with this TV it is totally different, you might mistake the brightness and sharpness to LCD. Believe me, I know it when you say you are LCD owner. I know what you look for into a TV. So with this plasma you get what you want from an LCD TV plus the positive aspects of plasmas. I have lots of watching material to test once the set arrives and will be glad to test any material I have for any member in this thread.

Yes it is confusing, you are the first to report the pops under this particular firmware update, unless you are mistaking the camera flashes for pops. What I would suggest you is to watch something you know had the pops before the firmware update, a scene of a movie or something like that and test it again. If there is nothing then these might be camera flashes and not pops

I'm guessing you know the difference between the strobes and the pops correct? Strobes will look like pops but happen at varying times regardless of where the camera is on the ice. The "pops" that we're fixed usually only show up closer to the goal when the camera pans over the Ida and crowd at the same time.

Well i would pull the trigger right now, wish i could! but for some weird reason, it is still not available in Spain or France (no problem in getting the french or spanish model when they are available).

What is stating to worry me is that i have read in some european forums that the F8500 will not be released in those countries, but i really doubt that´s the case, so i hope in the next few days it will be available, in the spanish Samsung site there is a link to the latest firmware (F8500 specifically) in the downloads section, but in the product page there is no sign of the F8500 eek.gif yet...

In worst case scenario i could order one from Portugal, but that would not be ideal....... Fingers crossed that finally the F8500 will make it to my country......

Exactly.... Those are my feeling......

Ha! funny, in the last few months i have been amassing a ton of BD, which are still in their boxes waiting for the "happy day" and i´m really curious of how my big collection of old DVD´s (late fifties and 60´sUS and UK tv series) love that stuff, from Twilight Zone to all Irwin Allen productions (name it i´ve got it wink.gif) look in a 64" inch screen, and i know Samsung does a pretty good upscaling sd material (my 55"C8000 is quite nice displaying sd).

Come on Samsung don´t be lazy and release the F8500 asap!! haha

Kind Regards

Oh, I know how you would feel. I really hope the TV will be released in your country soon.I strongly feel it will. I'm sure Samsung by now has realized the potential this TV has. Somehow I feel they are targeting the LCD consumer base. So if your country has lots of LCD available I would not be surprised even if F8500 would be the only plasma offered there. Don't order the TV because you have to see it in person first. That is the ideal way to buy a TV. Wait for it, you never know. This is Samsung's flagship product and I doubt they would not release it anywhere.

So you are getting ready for it smile.gif. Nice. Oh I love Twilight Zone. Have all the seasons in bluray. I bet it will look amazing.
True, Samsung's upscaling of SD material is excellent but don't forget that this will also depend on the upscaling capabilities of your DVD player. I have Oppo BDP-83 (With region mod kit) and its upscaling of SD material is outstanding. Sometimes it is hard to know that I'm playing a DVD instead of a bluray. I wanted to get the newest model (Oppo 103) to replace the one I have but quite few members advised me to keep the one I have even if I'm buying the new one as the 83 still has better DVD upscaling capabilities.
By the way my F8500 is the 64 inch too. I will report how SD material looks and will compare the same material with its HD version as most movie sets come with both the BD and DVD versions.

The line bleed you have posted about.

I don't have any line bleed, I was asking others if they do. Line bleed is a common side effect of plasma technology, if the F8500 has it defeated that's another plus for the F8500.

Why won't my 51" TV turn on? I turned it on first time. Turn off. Now it won't turn on unless I unplug it first.

Are there variations between the different sizes? I heard the bigger panels have more aggressive ABL, is this true?

You have my sympathy. Ironic as it is, this model is the only Samsung product not being released in Korea either and tons of Koreans are mad at Samsung especially since I've given them the news of it winning the VE shootout.

Hali, I spoke with Robert yesterday and it turns out it's coming today. Doesn't give me much time at all to put it through its paces since I'm leaving on a business trip Wednesday. But there's always the weekend. smile.gif

Friendssssss
Just got the TV biggrin.gif What a surprise. Was told it will arrive tomorrow but it came today.
Soooooo loving it. Don't have the time to write the first impression but let me say the things that worry most of us before any TV arrives:
1- Banding: Not a hint of it. I used all the slides of D-nice and was looking very very close and very hard. Nothing. Can't see anything. smile.gif
2- Buzzing: Nothing. No buzzing at all. I mute the set and put my head on the screen. I'm trying to hear the buzz but cannot hear anything
3- Dead pixels: None, checked with the slides. nothing there.

Right now its on movie mode with contrast at 50 and brightness at 45. I have Planet Earth on now and even with the contrast half way down this TV looks spectacular.

My only problem is that when I switch off the TV and switch it back on it goes back to dynamic mode. Is there any setting I have to change to prevent it from doing so.
I appreciate your help
