I would ask that if how many have been broken pixel in this plasma.I will probably need to try to live with this problem.

I don't think it's dead if it's red it's jsut stuck, you might want to try running a pixel flipper and see if it goes away.

One of the bright 1.78:1 aspect ratio Pixar movies have been helpful to a lot of people with stuck pixels. But it on repeat and let it run over night.

My understanding is that a dead pixel is usually black.

But you quoted Cleveland plasma and bond007 with there talk about IR. the whole thought was about IR. even your commercial free tv environment points to ir on a f8500 thread. wink.gif

Could someone please tell me how much the picture degrades when watching while sitting on the floor?

IR discussions seem to crop up everywhere plasma, and in the future OLED, displays are discussed.

Enjoy. smile.gif

It's not viewing height, it's viewing angle. If I sit from the base of my couch, I'm perhaps six feet away from the screen, which leaves me at an angle where I still get the full picture without any loss. However, if I scooted up right next to the stand while sitting down, the top of the screen would start to dim on me.

I don't think it's as much of an issue from the bottom as it is from the top. By that, I mean when you stand up, you have an easier chance of seeing the degradation than from sitting.

But I'm sure that there are those who would like to make it a felony, punishable by one year in jail, and a $500,000 fine. eek.gif

Run a digital optical (toslink) cable from the tv to your receiver.

I use ARC on my AVR and the HDMI 3 port on my F8500. I get 5.1 in Netflix and Amazon via HDMI. I don't know why others have issues with this, but I do not. For reference, my available sources are: TV, HDMI3 Verizon with my AVR, HDMI3 Samsung (Bluray) and, HMDI3 Verizon (without AVR). That's a single HDMI cable from the HDMI3 port straight to my AVR. My AVR switches sources between my FIOS STB and my Bluray player.

Not doable. My AV received in via 1 long HDMI in the other room.

I'm trying to use the Samsung as the master remote. I have it paired with my Direct TV Client Receiver. However, the guide display key on the Samsung is a display of the Samsung version of the program guide and not the Direct TV program guide. It is not very user friendly. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
Hey all,

I run the 60" F8500 from my AVR which has my HTPC, blu ray player etc all through HDMI3 for the ARC. As I also game on my HTPC, I enabled the PC mode to cut down on the input lag. This works well with XBMC, as once it starts playing media (at 24P or 50Hz source) it allows all the picture options to be unlocked (when in the PC Mode it only allows 'Normal' or Entertain').

Now the problem with this is, when the PC Mode is engaged, the Picture Size can only be selected as either 16:9 or 4:3. Which is pretty stupid when PC Mode would be the one you actually want Screen Fit available! When the HTPC changes to a different refresh rate in XBMC it flicks over to screen fit but not when I wish to play a game. Do you guys have this same issue in the US as we do on the AU models?

Sorry for the long post!

Then ARC is your only other option. Good luck.

Mind doesn't even load up. It just buffers the entire time and I exit out of it.

I don't think you can change it. It's trying to use its Smart UI so it can learn your habits. It still works in coercion with your DTV box, though.

I don't think there is a way to fix this but if I remember correctly there is a way to get to the directv guilde using the smart remote but it requires more than one button press. The standard remote does allow one button access.

Source STB

More button > STB Guide selection

I forget most of the time the main guide button is even present,

For about two months I had no problem accessing DirectTVs guide by clicking the touch remotes guide button and now the same thing happens it brings up the TVs guide and buffers. You can definitely access DirectTv guide via the remote button with just one click but it stopped working for me one day.

Hi all, I apologize if this has been covered somewhere in this thread. I tried to search, but it's a bit large..

Anyway, here is a thread I had with a Samsung support person today that explains where I'm at:

Visitor: the audio output troubleshooting guide lists the output formats available for many input types, but it does not list screen mirroring

Visitor: When I stream content to my TV from my Samsung Note 2 phone, is it capable of outputing dolby 5.1

Visitor: So when the input signal is screen mirroring, can it output 5.1 sound to my receiver via optical or HDMI/ARC

Nicolas: I understand you wish to get 5.1 surround sound when you connect a Samsung Note 2 mobile phone when streaming media. Is that correct?

Visitor: That's not quite how I would say it

Visitor: I have a video on my Samsung phone. I change the TV input to screen mirroring, and connect my phone to the TV

Visitor: I then play the video on my phone, which in turn plays on the TV

Visitor: Is the TV capable of dolby 5.1 output when this screen mirroring is used

Nicolas: Thanks for the information.

Nicolas: Would you mind holding for few minutes while I check the information for you?

Visitor: sure

Nicolas: Thank you.

Nicolas: Thanks for holding.

Nicolas: Yes, the TV is capable of dolby 5.1 output via optical cable when screen mirroring is used. However, it depends upon the media which you are streaming, if the media only support stereo sound then you will not get 5.1 sound from the receiver. The TV will output 5.1 sound if the media which you are playing support 5.1 dolby sound.

Visitor: ok, thank you for your time

So, I have a 3-D movie on my Galaxy Note 2 that I am playing through screen mirroring to the television. I am only getting 2 channel sound from the TV and wondering why that is. I'm using the MX Player app on my phone. not quite sure how to tell if the mp4 file has a 5.1 track, but I am assuming it does. Even the sound from the apps in the smarthub seems to be spotty on 5.1.

Anyway, is anyone else doing this and getting 5.1 sound? Is it the MX player app that is not capable of passing 5.1?

I'm going to attempt putting the file on a USB and playing directly on the TV later to see if there is any difference..

Thanks for any input.

Don

UPDATE: Upon a little more research, it seems that my file may not have a 5.1 track... Guess I may have posted a little too soon. Will try to get one I'm sure of and test again.

Hey guys eagerly awaiting the delivery of my 64" 8500 from Best Buy smile.gif . I know there are countless threads about how Best Buy Technicians Suck at calibrating TV's but i received the service in my package. Was wondering if any of you had a good job done by them. Should i absolutely avoid their service at all costs? Or should i inform myself on the proper method for this TV and just watch over his shoulder and make sure it's done properly. I've never calibrated a TV before but i'm a pretty quick learner. I don't wanna mess up this TV especially when all you guys are calibrating it to perfection and freaking out over the picture quality smile.gif

Yes. Keep watch over their shoulder and bring everything up, "So you're going to calibrate the 10p white balance now right? Because without that the set isn't fully calibrated?" etc. My calibrator was taking his time calibrating everything and I was asking hundreds of questions. Then I had a call, went into another room for about 15 mintues, and when I came back "ok you're all good to go the calibration is done." I look and white balance isn't complete and color space is set to "custom" but it's left at defaults. Half ass job. I think his GF was calling him lol. Anyways, I bought my own meter smile.gif

Ha what an idiot see this is what im afraid of. Was he a Geek Squad guy or a 3rd party that BB hired? Im considering asking for some money back at BB and finding another calibrator. Anybody know a good site to find good Calibrators in Canada? I checked TweakTV but unfortunately they only cover the US.

Also what did you guys run on this TV for the first 100 hours? What is recommended?

Edit: Ok so what i have gathered from the forum so far is to watch a variety of content without any logos. Movie Mode with the Cell at 20 and with TV Tweaks settings should be fine until i do a Pro Calibration after 200 hours.

Please correct me if im wrong.

Good question. Also, I have a new 64 inch that continues to drop Internet connectivity (all other devices have no problem with the Arris router). Running the latest firmware version. Any thoughts?
