Official Samsung PNxxF8500 Series Discussion Thread [No Street Price Talk] - Page 300

I have the 64F8500 and i am currently in 650 hours of operation. The tv is perfect except two very very faint bands that appear only in vertical pan shot from down-up but not from up to down. There are very faint and you must try very hard to spot them as they appear for 1 second on camera movement. And only in light colours not dark...Not visible in normal content like football, basketball or playing video games. Not bothering at all. You cant find the perfect panel. Other than that the tv is outstanding.

Anyone? There must be owners out there using the Samsung as a master remote.

Ela Re! So has the banding been a common problem in this thread?

Still no screensaver for the YouTube app. What the asd;ofkjaweo?

Where are the release notes for these updates? I'm on update 1111 and I have no clue what it did compared to 1110.

I had a terrible time getting mine to stay connected, so I just hardwired it.

Yeah, but why isn't that mapped to the guide button on the remote? There has to be a way. Otherwise, Samsung is dumb.

No, it's a pretty awful remote. They should have included a traditional universal remote in addition to this gimmicky annoyance.

There are many other remotes that are far better, even smart phone applications smile.gif

Well, I don't know what these firmwares do, and no one else does, apparently. But they've definitely done something about the response time. I was playing Ballad of Gay Tony earlier and decided to try it without PC mode or game mode and it was lag free. So that's awesome. Before, it was unplayable with lag if it wasn't in PC mode.

A lot can be going on under the covers with firmware upgrades. Unfortunately, in the past firmware development for a model stopped when developers were reassigned to support new models.

IMO one of the important benefits of the Samsung Smart TV Evolution Kits is that the firmware development on an Evo Kit model will continue up to three years longer to support new Evo Kits.
^ Of course there will always be Smarthub firmware upgrades, but as they are munged into one big firmware file, it's pot luck what is buried inside of one.

Speaking of which, sure would be nice to have a REAL on/OFF switch.

that sounds weird the reason l'am asking is that l for the life of me can;t get it to save picture settings in initial set up have chosen home mode and says home mode in tools looking on internet someone reckons to leave in standby use buttons on tv not remote push volume up once then straight after press and hold menu for 10-12 seconds tv will flicker and turn on with display bottom corner saying home use or dynamic now you can save settings any idea. thanks by the way for answering.

Hello,

I'm in the market for a new TV since last Thursday's home break in, and I'm shopping around and the 65" F8500 is on my radar.
I was a previous Samsung UN60ES8000 LED owner.

Do any of you F8500 owners play video games on your sets?
Do you see any issues with me playing maybe 3-4 hrs once or twice a week, if that.
Sometimes I go 3 weeks with no play at all, then I will play a few in a row, but its not like I'm a heavy gamer.

This is my only concern with going plasma, the one reason I first chose the LED over Plasma to begin with, so now that my TV has been stolen, I'm back to square one and rethinking my choices.

Also, my friend has the 2011 version of the Samsun 65" Plasma, not sure the model # there, but his came with a cool remote that had a keyboard on one side.
Do you know if that is gone now in this F8500 model? My ES8000 didn't have one, and I wasn't a fan of the remotes it came with, wondering what this one has.

Thanks.

I am not a gamer but have the keyboard for my F8500. It is Samsung VG-KBD2000 Wireless Keyboard . It can be synced with 3 Bluetooth devices. Use it for by my F8500 and Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet. Works great and can enter numbers directly from keyboard unlike standard remote.

Got it on Amazon but shop for best price. The model number above is for the F8500, don't know if your friends would work with an F8500. My Samsung VG-KBD2000 has on the right side a full copy of the F8500 remote with touch pad.

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

The green button connects the keyboard to the TV and the red and yellow buttons select two other Bluetooth synced devices.

Ok, so the F8500 doesn't come with a two sided remote, one that is for the TV controls and another is the mini keyboard, like what came with the Samsung PN64D8000?

In the box with the F8500 you will find a single sided Bluetooth remote with a touch pad and no number keys. Numbers can be entered from the touch pad or "More" button on remote brings up app to enter numbers etc. After you have the S/N of your set, first register and get a free one month extension to warranty then enter a form and Samsung will send you a free IR remote with number keys. That IR remote was provided for 2012 models. There is a link somewhere on this thread for the free IR remote request form. Can't find it right now.

Sweet, thanks JRWalker, these two remotes the one that comes with it and the one that you can order look just like the ones that came with my UN60ES8000, which the people who stole my TV didn't steal those remotes, wonder if they'd work on the F8500?

Thanks, I'm thankful we weren't home, no one was hurt, "things" can be replaced, my wife's sentimental jewelry however can't and she's upset with that.
I on the other hand, have been ok with getting to shop for a new set again. Excited for the future TV.

Well, I guess I automatically ruled out Plasma in my last purchase and research, I figured the IR scared me too much, especially after being burned before, no pun intended, with a rear view projection set.
So I was content with my LED, the Samsung UN60ES8000 was a good set, nice and bright, but I hated the angle viewing from day one and had some buyers remorse but was too late to return it.
My friend's father has a nice 64" 2011 Samsung Plasma, and its pretty awesome, so after the home theft, I started looking into other options and the word on the streets from my AV friends was to check out the Panny and Sammy plasmas of 2013. Which led me here to all you guys with experience with plasmas.

Thats where I am today. I think I'll be happy as all the others here with plasmas. One thing that also worried me, when I had that LED, was there was a LOT of posts continuing throughout the ESxx8000 thread about issues with the LED, light leak, bla bla bla, one thread after another, and while they were happy with the sets, lots were being exchanged and it just seemed like a lot of complaining.

Over here on the Plasma its like heaven is in front of them...with either Panasonic or Samsung. So here I stand...waiting to make my purchase once insurance comes through.
