For starters, if you're regret-free now, remain that way by not installing any firmware updates, especially if you're not already on 1115 or 1116.

I'm not saying they can't help you, but they certainly hurt me. Remain regret-free as you wish to be.

Congrats on your purchase. It's a wonderful set.

Brightness, black, quality. all just so fluid and rich in depth and color. Having some issues integrating control4 into system, but holy cow, no regrets.

Any help with settings to maximize satisfaction would be greatly appreciated.

Just had to say. I feel the same way! Got mine hooked up a few days ago and I am just wowed at the picture and I haven 't changed a setting yet. More importantly , my wife said wow and was pleased with the purchase.

I'd like to try adjusting the settings mostly for TV watching at night when just a rope light is providing ambient light. This thread is quote long so I hesitate to start at the beginning to see if any particular calibration settings are recommended. I recall reading that the calibration for each room is different and I supposed I'll get the TV calibrated after the new year. But, in the mean time if I'm just interested in getting more out of the TV when watching TV or movies in a dimly lit room can anyone point me in the right direction of some settings that would be better than just using the default?

Excellent, that's what you like to hear.........

So 1116 increased the effect of the black optimizer? If the mll is lower during content and not just a 0IRE screen, this is good news and signs of things to come for 2014 models. It seems like they worked out the kinks on this series this year.
^ Has it or are you speculating?
Yeah, I don't see any improvement in black levels. That said, I havn't measured them....

I see an improvement in black levels, not a lot but some. But I also did a service mode reset after I installed 1116. What a picture! Looks as close as you can get to 4k!

Pie, maybe you could do a black level measurement with the 1116 update??
^ I won't be near my TV for a couple of weeks sorry. Perhaps someone else with a meter can do this?

I took delivery of my 64 this morning. The post by rgiorgio echoes my thoughts, "wow"! This TV is phenomenal. It's a November build, zero buzzing or banding. So far I have just been watching Encore HD channel but would like to run slides at night. Can anyone point me in the right direction to download them? I couldn't help myself and played one Forza 5 race on Xbox One which looked incredible. I also popped in Assassins Creed Black Flag on PS4 and it too looked remarkable. I can't wait to dig in on the gaming side after 100 hours or so. After hearing about some user's troubles with the latest firmware I think I'm going to hold off on downloading the latest for now. I am so glad I didn't keep the UN65F7100 that I tried earlier this year. So far I am extremely satisfied.

Somewhere earlier in the thread I had read that the F5800 leans a bit forward or back. Can 'to find that now but my appears to lean back a bit. I just want to make sure this was the intended direction. Best Buy put the TV on the stand and I was too gleefully excited about the TV arriving that I don 'to remember much else, lol .

Mine stands up straight.

Hmmm . . . Now knowing that the tilt back on mine is a bit annoying as it doesn't look quite right in the entertainment center. I'll try again looking back early on in the thread when this was discussed.

The behavior is still that of floating blacks according to recent measurements on the 51" panel anyway...doesn't sound like much of an upgrade for a Kuro owner.

Here is the reference I saw about the leaning on the stand. I guess theirs was leaning back like mine.

And another pertinent link for your edification: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1415546/patterns-to-measure-mll-as-a-function-of-apl#post_23383073

if none of this was visible to you at the shootout, maybe it would be inconsequential to you at home, but as Panasonic is bailing, there's no shame in being fully informed before the choices diminish. Panasonic consumer TV division may no longer be around by this time next year.

Right, Vinnie, I was actually looking at those today, but this isn't including the newest firmware update, so I'm interested in seeing what comes from that.

Although, I might pull a Ken Ross here and just go with what pleases my eyes, black level be damned smile.gif
post #9772 of 11481
Ken Ross and I did the same thing at the same time. We discussed it, and decided what the hell it looks so good. Not a regret One.

Manual lists a RS-232 serial port on tv but its not there. How is this? Am i missing something?

What purpose would the Evolution kit serve? What should we expect the kit to do for the 8500?

Chris.....you must enjoy torturing us. smile.gif

Its got to be one of two things. Either Samsung is discontinuing plasma or they're bringing out a 4K (or that other almost 4K) resolution plasma.

I hope for the later.
