New to the world of projectors - screen size and material choice

Hi all,

I just purchased my first projector, an Optoma HD20. I need a little assistance on screen size and material choice for this projector and my room.

I have it pointed at a plain old textured wall right now, on top of a center channel speaker and I'm blown away by the quality. Happy chappy and now a projector evangelist for sure. And very happy to report the wife is in love with it. Going from a 40" to 120" is quite the difference.

In any case, the gory details:
  1. The room is 25ft long x 11.5ft wide x 9ft high. Seating starts at around 10ft and goes to 22(ish)ft. The room is pretty dark even during the day and I plan on rigging velcro/fabric or the like so I can control light even more, but would like a good balance where some light wouldn't be too bad -- it won't be pitch black all the time.
  2. I am looking to build a framed screen with a fabric (BOC or Latex?).
  3. I would like to the aspect ratio to be interchangeable between 2:35.1 and 16:9 -- I plan to rig up velvet and magnets to mask the 2:35.1.

I played around with this screen calculator. And it seems like my best screen size would be between 110"-115" for my room and projector.
Any suggestions on screen size would be great.

I have been doing a bit of reading in this forum and I am not sure what material to go with...or more particularly what material would work best for my projector and room (and plans I guess)?
Would I be best going with a white or grey?

Any suggestions/insights would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time I'll get back to reading.

Been a while in getting back to this but I'm ready to go (after a RMA of the HD20).

Sold on the Sintra and paint option, screen size will be 120" 16:9.

What is the regular going rate for Sintra? Here are the quotes I receoved in Phoenix:

White 1/4 inch
48 x 96 @ 55.00
80 x 120 @ 185.00

Seems like a big jump to the 80x120, is this about right?

The first size is at a excellent price.
Usually there is a 120" x 60" x 6mm (1/4") size available. That 80" size is very rare, and probably represents left overs from a previous Special order not fully picked up. 120" x 60" x 6mm should be around $125.00 average.
