Help please! Need advice on buying a new LED

My parents are in the market for a new TV 50-55". I'm usually a plasma guy but they want an LED due to power consumption and daytime weekend watching(bright room).

Budget is around $1000, don't really want to go over $1200.
Smart TV stuff stuff doesnt matter at all as they don't have it now. They are big sports fans so motion handling is a big priority. Picture quality of course is as well. Was looking at the Samsung 6500 and 7100 but read motion isn't great. Any insight would be appreciated! I know new models come out soon as well. Would waiting be worth it?
Ive always come here for calibration settings and such but have been out of the loop a while as I havent needed a new tv.Thanks in advance!

If I was in that situation I would hold off a little bit and see what deals come about for the high end tv's from the last years models.

I would be inclined towards Sony's hx850 for its motion handling, black levels and decent uniformity. However after seeinga hx923 (uk model) placed directly above the 853 (uk) I would easily save for that as viewing angles aren't an issue for me.

Thanks for the input. If it was me buying a new TV I probably would save more but no matter what they'd prefer to stay in the 1,000-1200 range and the sonys are $1800+.

Right you are.

Still, I would see if they can hold off a wee bit longer to see if any good deals on 2012 models come up. It might be a case of being able to get a higher end model for slightly cheaper, or even getting a mid range that once was in their price range for less.

Take a look if you have a costco by you. They sell the LG 55lm6700 for $1098. Best buy will pm if Costco has it in stock.

For a little more money look at the LG 55lm7600. Newegg had this TV for sale over the weekend for $1,229. They have been playing with price of this TV daily.

There is a Panasonic and Samsung in these price ranges as well but I think the LG offers the better PQ at these price points.

There is also a sharp 60" LED going for $1,199. Don't know much about the TV so you would need to research it. Just search Sharp 60 on Amazon. I also believe Target might sell this TV as well.

In doing more research it seems the Samsung pn51e6500 does well in lit rooms and good on energy as far as plasmas go. Only knock I've read is Samsung's signature plasma buzz. Anyone know how bad it really is? They currently have a 35" Sony triton CRT and all CRTs buzz slightly. Is it worse than that?

Found the un55es6580 for $999 at a good local retailer. Any opinions on it? Motion and PQ are top 2 concerns

Also I know the blacks aren't great on the Sony x750 but that they can get for $1150 vs the x850 at $1995. How would the samsung 6580 compare to the Sony x750 in terms of motion and PQ?

The unes6900 from best buy is a pretty good LED it only comes in a 50 inch I had it and returned it for a pne8000 plasma but it was for my bedroom no light so I went with plasma instead but when I had it I liked it a lot for an LED

Panasonic 55DT50. I have it and like it a lot. But it has some issues with backlighting uniformity. I bought a smaller 47DT50 and returned it so I could buy the larger one. It did not have uniformity or clouding issues, so I guess I bought a lemon. Panasonic is reviewing my warranty claim. I still have some time to return it.

Your best deals would be 2012 model clearances. 2013 models are coming but they will be expensive in the first few months.
