Want to hook my ipad up to my home theater system

Not sure if this is the right forum for this or not, but I have an ipad3 along with the HDMI out cable for it. I have a full home theater system with older Onkyo receiver (does not have HDMI in). Any ideas on how I could get these movie to play? Granted I could just hook the HDMI right up to my TV and listen on the TV's sound, but that wouldn't be much fun.

What are the iPad movies encoded at as far as sound anyway? 5.1?

What inputs DOES your receiver have? You have the Digital AV Adapter? If so, connect the iPad using that and an HDMI cable to your TV. Then, connect your TV to your receiver. A downside is that you would be at the mercy of whatever audio your TV outputs.
