here is my setup:

- Epson 3010 projector, ceiling mounted with lens to screen distance of 13' 1''
- room size is 15' 6'' X 23'11'', height = 8'6'', at basement, good light control
- viewing distance is a bit flexible, probably 13 to 16'
- watch movies including 3D
- looking for 133-136in screen (pls advice is this is not the ideal size)

advice on the following would be appreciated
- screen color (black or gray screen)
- screen gain
- anything else including brands?

Thanks a lot!

Check out the projectorcental calculator pro and put in your information... http://www.projectorcentral.com/Epson-PowerLite_Home_Cinema_3020-projection-calculator-pro.htm

You should be okay with a 1.0 gain matte white screen.. I could not find your 3010 projector so I calculated with a 3020.. you may want to ask other for opinions.. i'f you on a limited budget check out Jamestown and Monoprice.. great screens..

Thanks DrZaus. The link is very helpful.

It seems the tool is mainly for non-3D? my understanding is that for 3D the brightness is lower so I am wondering if a higher gain screen is needed.

what are the tradeoffs between

- higher vs. lower gain
- white vs. gray

thanks!

Yes it's main for non 3d, but you can use it for 3D also, room should be dark or have light control.. There are many useful threads for what your looking for..

Describe your setting/surrounding.. If you want to do 3d, get a screen with a higher gain.. but you need to have light control and darker walls.. What is your budget for the screen?

It is in my basement. If I close the blinds the room will be completely dark. The wall is light brown with Matte finish. To do 3D what gain should I use? What are the tradeoffs? Thanks!
