Trouble with Old HTP2500B Pioneer reciever after upgrading to Samsung UN55EH6001 TV

Hi all, recently came across this fourm and am loving all the great advice so far. Maybe you can help me out.

I recently upgraded to a Samsung UN55EH6001 Led tv and can only get some shows to actually play in either DTS or Dolby Digital with my old Pioneer HTP2500B receiver. I plan on getting a new receiver however it may be as late as christmas time before I can actually do that and would like to still surround before then.

Im playing mostly through my PS3 as well as some cable channels. I can get my HD cable channels to work fine and all downloaded movies on my PS3 work fine. Only some blurays Ive tried actually work netflix wont play any sound unless i select stereo mode only.

Im running one hdmi from ps3 to tv and then a digital optical cable from tv to receiver. My old receiver wont really work with any other setup. I actually will get no sound at all on certain blurays like Rise of the Planet of the Apes or netflix, unless I switch it like I said, only when I try and select on the ps3 the any other outputs other than the linear pcm 2 channel. Ive tried sending it both under PS3 settings in Linear pcm and bitstream and I still have same results.

Will leaving the Sound Settings on PS3 with the auto HDMI output of Linear pcm 2 channel still allow surround when available or do I need to change the settings to get the best sound with my current setup?

Probably time for a new avr so you can take advantage of HDMI connections. Try reading this http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=41820

How do you hook up the cable box?

Great link thx! Gave me some good info already.

Unfortunately upgrading the receiver is not an option...yet smile.gif but will be my next purchase. Just looking for suggestions on how to get the best sound out until I do upgrade.

Oh and we dont have a cable box, we mainly watch movies/netflix so we just have a basic cable package however we do get 30 or so digital HD channels with it.

Thx for the info!

You might also check your tv's output capability, my Samsung only outputs 2.0 from non-OTA sources. Probably why you're getting no issue with your cable (assume you've got a coax going right into the tv?)

Ya was thinking about that. How do I check for? Yes the cable goes right into the tv. Would that affect blurays as well as netflix app on the ps3? Rise of the Guardians bluray worked fine but the Planet of the apes didnt. If I wouldnt have had that issue I wouldve just chalked it up to the TV not outputting correctly when using netflix. But it does still give me Dolby Digital as an output option under the menu settings on the TV when using netflix bluray or cable...

Grrrr im thinking new AVR is coming sonner and sooner lol

Reread that list, there are various codecs involved besides the brand name alone. Check your Samsung manual, it should indicate what's possible for output depending on source. The tv doesn't care really what your playing, apps or discs, but you might check the PS3 manual or search the forums for PS3 sound settings/options. I use my PS3 via hdmi....

Thx again for all the help. I was able to get everything working after changing the ps3 settings around again. The tv and receiver both say they work with DTS but apparently that was the problem. After only enabling DD and not DTS through the ps3 it all started to work and the one Bluray I have that is DTS only no DD just reverted to the Pro Logic...guess thats the best its getting for now.

Still dont know why DTS doesnt work even after reading in all the manuals they support it but that will have to be my reason to upgrade the AVR lol
