In that case, put more money into your speakers. Kef Q300s would be a good one to look into.

HSU's yea those might be pretty good.
reciever wise that's a tough one lots of competition in <500.00 spot
last one I bought was a $1500 Sony ES 7.1 I got it for a G then I also have 3 restored silver pioneer "monster recievers " from the 70's
they can rock .

Also have a 13 yr old Technics AVR class h amps in it and a fan it only comes on when you tax it only cost like $400.00 then thing sounds pretty good still works good solid 100 wpc .thing was ahead of it's time.
Too bad Panasonic/Technics didn't step up their game
they are certainly capable tech wise.

The Sony's better.... but not a grand better .

On Music the Old Pioneers get the nod cleaner than all the new stuff like .003 thd imagine that 1979 tech

The old Pioneer SX1050 and SX3900 are two of cleanest receivers you will ever hear 1979 and 1980
Not cheap to buy or restore these days either.

Hope the Sony lasts that long my other ES only made it 6 yrs then it went up in smoke.
I bitched at Sony Had 2 of Their TV's then also ....they gave me $500 off the this ES it has a 5 yr warranty so did the old one.
the SX3900 and 1050 are two of cleanest recievers you will ever hear 1979 and 1980

I'm thinking the Onkyo NR616 and the Pioneer VSX1122 look to be some pretty good deals at Newegg

$399 for the Pioneer it's $100.00 more at Amazon right now . special shipping ,good specs.
pioneer has the D3 B&O type Ice amp clone amp moduales pretty good stuff .

$349 for the ONK both over 40% off list new in box no refurbish issues ONK has free shipping ,good specs .
Onk is $399.00 at Amazon right now so Newegg has the deals here both are network and on screen display swinging specs for either one at these prices. Only thing is I've never been to sure of Onkyo reliability bough one once it was DOA took it right back
and bought a Sony that was a while back they could be better now. some forum threads about broken Onks here also though.

Sh#T I would want to try and hear both if I could maybe at BB or somewhere. Thing is Newegg might change the price monday so just saying.
The Onk has had some good reviews on AK maybe here too?
lotta folks like the Pioneer 1222 also only difference is 10wpc from the 1122 to the 1222 can't even hear that.
Maybe some owners here can tell you something ,feel lucky ask GF which one looks better, flip a coin.
I think they are both swinging deals
5 yrs from now they will be dead and broken anyway if you use them probably. that seems to be the way with some of the new stuff now .

The ONK is THX certified though so that's not bad I'm sure the Pioneeer would pass also they just don't wan't to pay THX for that badge
can't blame them. Pioneer was making good stuff 40 years before anybody ever heard of THX.

Gaah, so split over the KEF Q300s and HB1-MK2s.

Just a heads up. I was thinking about the HSU's as well, and decided to go check out the PSB B5's (or B6's if I didnt use my sub anymore). Please do yourself a favor...check them out. My jaw dropped when I heard them.

Just an FYI---I LOVE my Yamaha receiver...RX-V765.

There's a sense in which it may not be productive to separate the speaker rating from the speaker price. The forum can help you find speakers that are very good in their price range (and avoid speakers that are not good values), but, the choice of which price range is up to you.

Both the HSU and KEF speakers on your list are excellent speakers "at their price point", but the KEF (as it's price indicates) is in a different class.

Another example would be the Cambridge Audio S30 - a truly incredible $110 speaker (I own a pair) that sounds better than several (lower rated by most forum members) $300 speakers I've heard. But as much as I love the S30 I would never say it sounds better than some of the higher-rated/well-respected $300 speakers I've heard like the Focal or KEF.

(I haven't heard the PSB's.)
