Home Theater Setup

My wife and I recently purchased our first home upon doing so I got to put together a new home theater system. Below is a list of what I got (keep in mind I was on a budget).

Samsung 60" Model: PN60E530A3FXZA

Definitive Technology - ProCinema 600 Model: PC600

Denon - 600W 5.1-Ch. 3D Pass Through A/V Home Theater Receiver Model: AVR1613

I also bought AudioQuest HDMI for all of my devices & 30' of speaker wire for all speakers except for the 2 back ones (which I believe is my problem).

Saturday I spent a couple of hours running all the speaker wire, hanging the tv, setting up all of the equipment etc. After I got it all done I sat down to begin the "Setup Assistant" on the Denon. I ran through it 3 times and every time when it got the the left rear speaker the receiver shut itself off? Can anyone tell me why it would do this? My initial thought is because I used the previous home owner's speaker wire.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have a short in that wire or connection somewhere. Disconnect the speaker wire for that channel from Denon and try it again - it shouldn't shut off then. If it does, the unit is defective.

Look at the speaker wire at both ends and make sure there aren't any strands touching the other connector on the speaker binding posts - this is the most likely culprit...

Thank you, like I said I was thinking/hoping it is the speaker wire. I am thinking about rerunning better wire to those 2 speakers, I just dread getting in the attic to do it.

What is the proper way to hook up all of the speakers & subwoofer to the receiver? Currently I have red to red & black to black on all the speakers but I have the 2 front speakers hooked to the sub then from the sub to the receiver.

I just looked up the owner's manual for the PC600. It looks like there are two ways to hook up the fronts and sub.

First is to run the speaker wire from the receiver to the sub, then to the L and R speakers. Sounds like this is the way you did it. Seems weird, but this is the way Def Tech recommends it. Set the L and R speakers to "Large" and no sub in the receiver.

Second is to run speaker wire directly from the receiver to the L and R spekers and to connect the Sub with an RCA cable to the receiver. This is the more conventional way of hooking up speakers, but like I said above, for some reason Def Tech recommends the other way. Set the L and R speakers to "Small" and Yes to the sub in the receiver.

And it sounds like you either have a short in the LR speaker wire or speaker. Try running temp wire to the LR and run the setup again. If is still shuts off, try swapping the LR and RR speakers while still using the temp wire and see if it now shuts off with the RR speaker. This would let you know if the speaker is bad. If is still shuts off on LR, it may be a faulty receiver.

I switched the front left speaker with the rear left and everything is working perfect now.

Thanks
