I have an OPPO 103, so could I just burn the avchd version and start calibrating with it in the OPPO?
Its amazing more and more of these discs are being made by enthusiasts giving us an option over spending $600-4000 for a generator. I assume the accuracy of the patterns is just strictly making sure the numbers are correct when you create the pattern?
I sure wish it was that simple.
You also have to figure out peculiarities of your display which dictates which patterns you use. For example, when calibrating grayscale on my 65VT50, you get very different results if you use a non APL 5% window versus a 22% APL 5% window. I'm still working on figuring this out but its enough to say that you may find that you spend $1K on a spectro, then $500 on software, thinking you're done and then find that you still have to get a signal generator to get just the right pattern for your display. If you do decide to get a signal generator, I'd recommend the Accupel 5000.
