Yamaha RX-V473 will not work with Dayton 1000 subwoofer auto on/off

Dayton Audio has sent me two Sub-1000 subwoofers because the auto on/off would not work. Since the auto on/off on the second subwoofer will not work I thought the problem may be the RX-V473 Yamaha receiver. I have tried many configurations including turning up the subwoofer in the receiver setup. I'm using a high quality Dayton subwoofer cable. I like the subwoofer but the auto on/off not working is a problem. Any ideas?

No matter what the volume level the sub won't turn on? The trim level for the sub in the avr might help, but it's the overall level too. I've seen several reports of people who start up/listen at a very low level having trouble with auto on. Could simply be a series of defective switches, too.

Here's a $20 fix

1. Go to Best Buy

2. Buy this (on sale) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+-+7-Outlet+Power+Manager+with+Surge+Protection+and+Noise+Filtering/1881054.p?id=1218299606697&skuId=1881054&st=rocketfish%20surge&cp=1&lp=11

3. Plug it into the wall or your existing power center

4. Plug the Yamaha into the "Main" outlet

5. Plug SW into one of the switched outlets

6. Turn off "Auto sense"

DONE!

I now have the subwoofer auto on/off working but I had to change the speaker balance. Speakers were turned far down and the subwoofer way up. I then turned the subwoofer gain down and the switch worked. Seems the auto switch worked with higher volume than I usually listen. Am I losing any quality by changing the speaker and subwoofer balance on my Yamaha RX-V473?

You'd have to describe the before/after settings in more detail...does that model have YPAO?

Incorrect...
The Yamaha AC switched outlets are only good for 50W, the subwoofer draws > 250W. The subwoofer needs to be plugged into its own direct AC outlet or power strip..

Just my $0.02... 👍😉

If you actually read my post you would see that I suggested a switching power strip, not plugging it into the Yamaha outlet. So you can keep your 2 cents.

You are losing no quality. You want the sub volume IN THE AVR to be as close to 0 as you can get it. The rest of the speakers will take care of themselves. I'll bet you had a large negative number for the sub volume in the 473. That is why it was not turning on automatically. Keep adjusting the SUB GAIN until you get near 0 sub volume ON THE 373 and the auto feature should work fine. Once you do this you should only adjust the sub volume IN THE 373.
