You can get Kimber Kable 4PR for $3/ft or 8PR for $5/ft bare wires and add banana plugs yourself.

24 banana connectors is $16: http://www.amazon.com/Connector-Banana-Plugs-Screw-Black/dp/B0093F4ROI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1366983594&sr=8-4&keywords=Banana+plugs

Emotiva 2 6ft cables x $60 = $120
Emotiva 2 9ft cables x $70 = $140

Kimber 8PR 2 6ft cables x $30 = $60 + $16 (save the remaining bananas for later) = $76
Kimber 8PR 2 9ft cables x $45 = $90 + $16 = $106

I wouldn't give someone too much flak for spending a few hundred bucks on cable. It's when I see someone buy a $5000 3 foot interconnect that I chuckle to myself and wonder if they could tell the difference in a blind test.

Agreed.

And in my case, it is much CHEAPER to buy KIMBER KABLE than to buy EMOTIVA ! eek.gif

Well done smile.gif

I just wanted to show him an alternative with slightly better looking, but not yet obscenely priced cables (there are likely better examples, but it's not an area I've done a lot of searching in redface.gif).

Still why spend even a couple hundred bucks? There will be no better performance from a $200 cable than a $10-15 50' roll of quality 12-14guage wire from Monoprice?

Really. If you want to spend more money to get better sound buy better speakers.

If you've got money to burn on something that won't do anything to improve the sound of your system and care more about how your cables look than how they work then by all means waste it on pretty wire. And then turn in your Man Card. rolleyes.gif

Some people waste money on sports (football, basketball, baseball, etc), alcohol, tobacco, fine dinning, gambling, fancy clothes & jewelry, cars, motorcycles, and other accessories and hobbies.

Some people waste their money on wires and amps. No big deal.

If if makes you happy (and it doesn't hurt anyone), it can't be that bad.

Audio is just one part of our senses, in addition to sight, touch, smell, taste.

But don't forget our emotions and mood and how they relate to our ENJOYMENT.

And that's what it's all about, right? Our ENJOYMENT?

If a friend has more enjoyment believing that his speaker cables improved the sound, who am I to deprive him of that harmless enjoyment? biggrin.gif

If it was one of mine friends I'd tell him to give his head a shake because fancy speakers wires are going to make his speakers sound better. But of course I don't really believe in sugar coating things for people to make them feel better about something that's total untrue.

Wasting money is one thing, but believe something does something that it doesn't is a totally different matter.

If your friend wants to spend $48 total on two 8ft Kimber Kable 4PR cables, would you preach to him about the evils of wires?

I've got a pretty decent offer from Dubai local AV Shop, 9 dollars per ft (with 4 banana connectors) Analysis Plus Oval 12/2. They are authorized seller and buying/selling in bulks. They do all the assembly, crimping etc. Much cheaper than Emotiva..biggrin.gif. I think this is fine and can be delivered to my doorstep biggrin.gif

Well, I needed 500 feet of wire and they are all hidden, so I bought 3 different kinds of wire. Bluejeans 10 gauge in wall, monoprice 12 gauge in wall, and Axiom bulk 12 gauge. The axiom was $1 a foot, the BJC was $.57 and the monoprice was $.40-$.50(Can't remember). The difference in wire is flexibilty. The axiom cable was outstanding and very easy to bend, cut, and never prick your fingers as it was nice and soft for terminations. The BJC was the opposite, very stiff and always caused my fingers to bleed. The monoprice was in between. I have all 3 wired in my theater and the sound is all the same of course. I would buy based on how easy it is to install terminations. I don't like monoprice bananna plugs at all. The expensive monster and then cheaper acoustic reality work best so far. Axiom's banannas were bad as well. Bad meaning did not fit snug in my equipment. Maybe for different amps or something.

What is 48$ compared to happiness? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Buy Axiom bulk cable for $1 a foot and then add the monster banannas at best buy for $20. Much cheaper and you get a good quality 12 gauge speaker wire. So a 10 foot cable would cost you $30.

Evil of wires? I already said the same thing to the OP, if you want fancy wires just to have fancy speaker wire by all means buy them. Just don't try selling me snake oil and giving me some horse cr@p story that they make your speakers sound better!

AcuDefTechGuy, the last part of my comment isn't directed at you either. I'm just saying in general.

Normal retail seems to more like twice that. Any reason for the ummm exceptional pricing?

When it's $42 more than was necessary that happiness could take the form of a bottle of 20 year old single malt with the money saved. cool.gif

The sixteen bucks I'd save not paying a Monster price is two six packs of micro-brew. Or four gallons of that which probably makes it possible for pinoy ako to consider Kimber Krap. biggrin.gif

Well, you can bare wire it for no money, but I change out things quite often and banannas are very quick to plug and unplug. Monster although more expensive fit better and don't fall out. Trust me, I tried cheaper ones and the best cheaper one so far are the AR's from best buy.

I feel the same.

I have the money. I spend on higher quality connectors and cables that suit my desire.

I guess some people just get drunk and don't give a crap. eek.gif

Where are you getting 20yr old single malt for $42?

A fifth of Macallan 12yr costs me $57 here in Colorado which is better than the $95/fifth I was paying in Canada.

New Hampshire. No income tax, no sales tax, and state run liquor stores with the cheapest prices around to draw in customers from all the surrounding states and Canada to buy their liquor here instead of at home, which is why we have no income tax and no sales tax. wink.gif

Live free or die.

If New Hampshire had more business, I would have moved there in a heartbeat.
