Replacing A Driver - Mordaunt-Short MS309W

I have a Mordaunt-Short MS309W and would like to replace the original driver. The problem is when the sub hits certain frequencies, I hear a clanking sound as if 2 glass bottles are hitting each other.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be a fine replacement?

Specifications for the Mordaunt-Short MS309 Subwoofer:
Enclosure Type: Twin downward facing tuned ports.
Frequency Response: 35Hz to 200Hz
Power Rating: 150 watt Active
Drivers: 1 x 10" (255mm) Long throw aluminium CPC cone woofer
Cross-Over Type: Active - variable between 50 - 150Hz
Cabinet Dimensions: Width 370mm
Height 370mm
Depth 370mm
Weight: 15Kg

What model would you recommend? I'm looking for decent response but not more than $150

That's just as likely to be the amp running out of headroom as it is the driver. You can only get so much out of a sub that small. As for replacing the driver, you need to match the T/S specs of the driver to the cab. And if you don't know the specs of the stock driver, specifically xmax, you have no way of knowing if a replacement would be better, or even as good for that matter.

Hello, I have the answer.
It is a manufacturing defect quality MS driver itself.
I have a 309i and avant devido noise is that the cable that goes from behind the driver's membrane, is too long and rubs when the driver is moving.

I giving solve tape strips and the other wire tying a small inward curve of the driver spider.

I hope you will help.
Anyway the subwoofer and not use it, has been replaced by SVS in my system.
