Selling my Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD what should I buy ?

So I'm going to be putting my treasured Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD soon and wondering what I should replace it with.

The Kuro is an amazing picture. It was one of the last one's out of the factory and I even got to select the specific panel since my wife worked for the video management group at the time. I've never had ANY problems with it. Is anything this bullet proof or rock solid blacks and colors these day. I don't know if anything today even touches it, but the family think it's time to move on. They would like 3D, smart apps, smaller bezel but I want to keep at the best picture quality possible.

I like the design of the LG LCD but I don't know about the quality. Samsung LCD seems to get better review. Depending on who you talk to LCD just still isn't there with Plasma. OLED and Ultra HD are too much to spend.

So am I back with Plasma (why I posted here)? If so who?

Thanks for your advance input, I just don't know what to replace the Kuro with that's on a similar level. HELP....

I'm in Los Angeles if it makes a difference so it's easy for me to check out all the sets around town, but need some advise before running around.

It's a family room TV. I've got a dedicated room elsewhere in the house. So it's not a big deal to concede for the family room. I do want to replace it with the something of similar caliber if I can.

So what's some of the better current model choices I can put in there.

Could be the best panny or the best Sammy...you would have to go look at them. I would think plasma is the king, still...especially if you're used to plasma already.

If you can wait for the ZT60 personally I would that way youll be able to get a comparison to the F8500 which we should have a review for sometimes next week....Otherwise right now you have the choice between the 2012 models form Samsung or Panasonic (Panasonic being the "top dog" as far as popularity and most professional reviews with the VT50)......the F8500 is shaping up to be a nice TV from 1st reports however so if you can wait I would wait.....

Sounds like that's the best option is to put it off slightly longer and look at the ZT60 or F8500 as you said. I was reading up on the ZT60 last night and the F8500 this morning. How coincidental. Ha!

I wanted to like the LG. I like their designs but it seems (correct me if I misspeak here) that LG has questionable quality control (or compromises to much for pricepoint), promises features that are not available at launch (or even later), and is just not really worth looking at???

The upgradability of the F8500 seems nice, but it's really just the menus and apps. You can do that with a bluray and for less than the $300 they quote. So it seems it really comes down to picture quality between the ZT60 and F8500 ?

You said your family wanted 3D and apps. That's what the F8500 and ZT60 has. For PQ you would have to wait for reviews but reports are saying both TV's are really good. But IMO you wont really be upgrading from a kuro. You already have a reference TV.

Don't know your budget but you might want to look into 70" Sharp Elite if you can find them. Problem is its hard to upgrade from a 60" Kuro and expect an improvement. At least the Sharp is giving you a bigger picture.

+1. An increase in 10" in screen size will far outweigh any PQ difference (if any) a ZT60 or F8500 might give you. The Elite also has excellent 3D and apps your family wants.

Yes you're right. If he wants a bigger size there's plenty of other options.

Other TV's do things better than the kuro, but it's too small of an improvement to care. The only thing I notice with other displays is maby better sharpness.

Seems realistic that 2013 Panasonic will outperform 2013 Samsung because Panasonic Plasma's have outperformed Samsung Plasma's consistently in the past. Samsung is ''king'' of marketing smile.gif

We could ahve said the same thing about Hyundai and Kia, yet all of a sudden they have starrted to take the lead while everyone else was looking the other way wink.gif It wont stop the compaisons but I myself am waiting for these sets to be measured before saying one os btter than the other, If the ZT is found to have a host of other issues, but still ahs the best pic does that make it the best TV? Ive long past the stick measuring phase, but welcome the pro reviews and user experiences that we will be seeing over the next few weeks\months.....

Yes in the past.
It's is a different ballgame as the F8500 is new from the ground up.
Besides the ZT is a limited production series so even if they both end up a tie
the ZT will sell out and then what will happen?

Last year the top LED Samsung UNES8000 performance - Ultimate LED TV - was blown out of proportion before critical reviews. I expect the F8500 performance to be less than folks pretend it to be to.

How are we throwing in a 2012 LED into the mix? How does the 2012 LED have any relation to the 2013 Plasma?

Thats like me saying well the 2012 Honda motocycles are really nice, that must mean the 2013 Honda cars will be really nice too......Not sure how it being blown out of proportion as all people ahve been going on is what Samsung has said at CES (as well as those who saw the set at CES) and now those who either own or have seen the production unit 1st hand....

Seems like the ZT60 will be a better display. Weird how it will only match a VT50/60. The press comments makes it seem like huge upgrade from last years Samsungs.

Its seems weird thate the comment you linked to was made at the end of Jan, before any production units were out and anyone had them in hand.....Im not saying your wrong, but lets face it, those comments are based of CES impressions, not sure how they are valid with production units, its all speculation at this point.....

*shrugs* I have to horse in this race and dont care either way which set is "best" I am not a screenshot junkie nor do I take iphone\camera shots as gospel....As I ahve stated and remain firm, until these sets are calibrated and properly reviewed its all guesswork and assumptions at this point......We should ahve more information on the 8500 (51) early next week) and the larger (60, 64) by the end of it. well have to wait about a month and a half maybe a little less to get the reviews on the ZT which I fully expect to be a top performing set........

no I saw and still the ZT has yet to be measured, which is my point....the prelim numbers were an improvement over last years models going from a(EK) .004 to a .001 which would also be an improvement over last years VT50.......This number could change and may be worse\better on the 64\51, which is again why i say wait...While Samsung has said they have "fixed" what caused the difference in performance between set sizes, Ill hold of an judgement until the sets actually get measured.....Heck all this talk of F8500 and ZT theres still the VT60 that still has yest to be looked at.....
